Default Folding Stock Guns Skill

What skill would you use when using a Rifle with a folding stock when it is in the folded position?

Adding a shoulder stock to a handgun seems to make the weapon usable with either the Guns (Rifle) or Guns (SMG) skill. I guess this depends upon whether it is a revolver or a semiautomatic pistol?

A shoulder stock doesn't change a pistol into a rifle. All that matters with those skills is if its a rifled long barrel or not. If its a short barrel like a pistol, then a semi-automatic is Guns (Pistol) and a full automatic is Guns (SMG). If the weapon has a long, rifled barrel, it is Guns (Rifle) whether or not it is semi-automatic, single shot or full-automatic.

HT (pg. 160) says that pistol with a stock attached uses Guns (Rifle).

Which leaves the skill distinction between submachine guns and automatic rifles somewhat obscure, which leads to possible debate about all the Gun specializations.

I address this very issue in my article "Alternate Guns Specialities and Techniques" (Pyramid #3/65).

Both by RAW and under my alternate suggestions, folding the stock on a long arm does not change the required skill. Also in both systems, adding a stock to a handgun does change it.

Cheers

I think there's definitely some overlap between the specializations. I haven't read HANS's solution, yet, but for me I'd just allow some guns to be used equally well under multiple specializations as long as it makes sense.
