Yes but back in the day the Highlanders had more traditional ways of deciding which square inch of land belonged to whom.

Yes, but that's very much relative. The "Northeast Megapolis" of the USA currently has a somewhat lower population, and population density, than England as a whole.

You haven't really lived until you've tried to understand the interaction between brehon law, Scottish Law, and kinship networks in land tenure in the highlands in the 1570s!
