Card Question : "Rat on a Stick"
Question about this card, the text is as follows;
"Discard for automatic escape from any monster of level 8 or below." Can this card be played to force someone to run? Was playing a game last night, and I had the Rat on a Stick card in my hand. Another player was about to fight a level 7 monster, if he won the combat he would have won the game. In that situation, could I have forced him to automatically escape? The card does not say "allows YOU to automatically escape" so it seems a bit unclear. Any thoughts? Thanks. |

Re: Card Question : "Rat on a Stick"
I'm not sure whether it can be forced upon someone else but I do know that it is a non one-shot-item, which means that you cannot directly play it from your hand

Michiel, you may want to reread the rules. One shot items can be played from your hand.

Re: Card Question : "Rat on a Stick"
I would assume that, no, you cannot use this to force an opponent to escape. The card says it allows automatic escape, and I would assume that would only go into effect if the player chooses to escape. The card does not explicitly state that the target is forced to choose to escape.
There are cards (Flee Powder comes to mind) that can force your opponent to escape, even if he were winning. The Flee Powder card expresses this explicitly on the card text, leading me to believe that, if Rat on a Stick coud do this, it would be stated as it is in (or in a similar fashion to) cards like Flee powder. Though, I would believe that, if you wanted to, you coud use your Rat on a Stick to help an opponent run from a creature level 8 or below if he/she so chose to, because (I believe) the card does not specificaly state that it can only be used for your run attempt. But, then again, what the hell do I know... Dimo (Cuddlefish), TTLC, HMSH, House of GABCab

He said he knows it's not a one-shot card, and that it can't be played from the hand because of that. :-)

Re: Card Question : "Rat on a Stick"
Let me be ABSOLUTELY clear here: If a card is supposed to force the end of any combat, it will say so. A card that allows someone automatic escape DOES NOT force someone out of combat. This has been asked and answered several times over the past few days now with respect to different cards and the answer remains the same.
