May be it will be in the stakeholders report:
9th Feb news I finished the Stakeholders' Report for 2011 except for the discussion of priorities, because we are still bickeri . . . ahh, energetically discussing that. But you'll see the report soon. |

Re: Things are looking up
Why would how the map is printed change the rules?
So since the physical edition will be the high end product, how about a low end product to offer the masses? Something less than three bucks at an App store?

I suspect that the available print formats for the rules might change how the rules are formatted.

But seriously, I think the reference was probably to a potential "print and play" version of Ogre, which might not be a bad idea. A tiny, intro version like they do (did?) for Heavy Gear, Battletech, etc. way back when. But it's just a suggestion. I'm more than willing to peel off a bit to get the Real Thing, and as an Ogre fan of LOOOOONG standing, I have learned, above all, to be patient. When it's ready, Steve-o, you'll be able to sell at least ONE copy, for sure. May not be enough to settle your accounts, but call it a start! --AK

Re: Things are looking up
I've been playing since the Summer of 1980 (GEV was the game the game that got me into board games), so I figure I can wait a little longer.

I can predict how this will go: The grognards will buy-in quickly, maybe SJG will pay for its initial investment, and then the sales will drop off, causing SJG to stop supporting it again, in favor of games that actually earn profit. This leaves us back where we are now. I consider myself a grognard (I still have my ziplock bag of the original Ogre), but I have other commitments, and making me choose between them and Ogre is not a good way to get me to buy it. A big, expensive box version of Ogre is not what I want. The new dice games by SJG have succeeded by being small, quick to play and inexpensive. Like the original Ogre game. Learn from this. Please. Or perhaps I am in the minority. In which case I wish you the best, but I will likely not be joining you.

Re: Things are looking up
I think you are wrong here. If I want to buy a board game nowadays it has to at minimum have the production values of Small World or Settlers of Catan. I doubt I could even convince anybody to want to play a Microgame style game nowadays. I've got a closet full of old boardgames, and every once in awhile I get the urge to trot one out. Nobody wants to play them. They will play games as expensive as Arkham Horror or Descent, though.

If _O6_ does come out, I might dust off my "OGREs In Space" rules....
