Default Ogre:Objective 218 Rules Question

Quick rules question about supporting attacks. Can a unit make an attack, and then a subsequent supporting attack in the same turn. Furthermore, can two units deployed in the same turn switch off their supporting attacks to effect attacks from both units in that turn? This is causing rules disputes, and any official word would be helpful.

The only time a unit attacks is right when it is deployed. The only unit that can make two attacks in one turn is the Mark III Ogre. That's why it takes your whole turn to deploy one Mark III Ogre.

So, one unit (other than the Mark III Ogre) cannot make an attack and then a subsequent attack in the same turn, although that one unit may help another unit later on that has Combined Fire by being able to Target the enemy unit that is subject to the Combined Fire. One important note about Combined Fire is that one unit may not Target and Attack in the same turn. So, for Combined Fire to work, there would have to be previously deployed units in play that are targeting the enemy.

To answer your second question, let's say you have an units already deployed from previous turns that have a Target on enemy units. As long as you are able to deploy your new units into your Supply Chain (with the exception of Light GEV) in such a way where the first unit's Combined Fire can get triggered by an existing Target on an enemy, it is possible to deploy your second unit using Combined Fire and get support from the Target of the first unit played this turn.

I hope this makes sense for you. I'm glad you are enjoying this game, I love it also.

Thanks. That makes sense. Is the prohibition against a single unit targeting and attacking in the same turn explicitly laid out in the rules?

No problem MazeMonster! I'm glad I could help you out.

On the rules sheet under Combined Attacks it states:

If the attack diagram on a unit shows a (cross-hair icon), the unit must make a combined attack. This type of attack requires you to have two of your units in play. The enemy unit must fall within the (cross-hair icon) spaces on the attacking unit's attack diagram. The enemy unit must also fall within the (red dot icon) spaces indicated on the target diagram of a unit that has already been deployed.

If the conditions outlined earlier are not met for a combined attack (for any attacking unit with {a cross-hair icon} in its attack diagram), the unit cannot attack. It still deploys on the virtual grid, but it does not destroy any enemy units.

If the requirements are met for a combined attack, the unit attacks, and the enemy unit is destroyed (or, if the target is an Ogre, the attack damages the Ogre). Destroyed units are removed from play and placed in a discard pile.

Also, on the back of the rules sheet in a box in the bottom left corner of the sheet, right above the game's credits; it states:

Again, a combined attack requires both (cross-hair icon) (provided by a newly deployed unit) and (a red dot icon) (provided by a previously deployed unit) to indicate the space an enemy unit occupies.
