Hmm.

"It Ain't Half Hot Mum" was co-written by David Croft, who also worked on Dad's Army; it deals with a Royal Artillery Concert Party (entertainment for the troops) in Burma. You might also consider 'Allo 'Allo, also co-written by Croft, which deals with the French resistance.

More recently there's Bluestone 42, about a bomb disposal unit in Afghanistan.

There are some episodes of 'The Army Game' on YouTube. It's not quite what you're looking for either, but it's kinda cool. The setting is post-WWII National Service in the UK. Bonus Anglophile cred: you could be the first person in your group to see Bill Hartnell act in a role other than originating Doctor Who!*

Well, like I said, this is an idea I've had for a while, but have no particular hope of running. If someone wants to steal it, be my guest!
Might be a diverting change-of-pace from what we've been up to lately.

*You totally wouldn't be. Sorry.

I'd certainly recommend Bluestone 42 (as RogerBW said above), a 3 series BBC comedy about recent British Army experiences in Afghanistan. Lots of good comedy about the modern Army in there and it appears to be available on Youtube as well as on BBC DVD. I'll have a think about any others...

If you're interested in stuff on paper, Spike Milligan's war memoirs are very good. The first volume was filmed; the later volumes are actually set in active theatres.

A lot of George MacDonald Fraser's work concerns the British Army, especially The General Danced at Dawn. One of those stories was adapted for TV.

I don't like to count my chickens before they hatch, but have put in for Discworld at State Library open games day. I got a scenario off Phil Masters 'Undiplomatic Incident'. Maybe I'll find some players to spin that into a group.

Shame I don't have my shiny copy of Discworld RPG yet. Im going to work off a mix of notes and the Basic set

My currently "active" Discworld campaign dream is about Vuile-Oudestad,
a city somewhere on the Sto Lat-part of the Circle Sea coast.
It does not have a Thieves' Guild, just a large selection of colourful i
independent gangs (Gangs of New York meets The Warriors), and likewise
its City Watch is understaffed, underfunded and "supplemented" by a messy
tangle of Harbour Patrols, City Ward-specific watchmen, Official And
Authorised Thieftakers, private guardsmen and ad hoc vigilantes.

A few enterprising souls have joined together and contacted the Ankh-Morpork
Thieves' Guild. Whether the aim is franchising, opening a branch office or
just for an efficiency expert to help unite and organise the gangs into a
proper Guild remains to be seen/decided.

Something similar is true for the City Watch, and it remains to be seen if they
get someone striving to emulate Vimes or Carrot, or someone more Moist...

Loads of great character potential there, have you got them all sketched out already or is this purely at the planning stage? I love the idea of setting up a Thieves Guild and how much opposition, politics and chaos could result!

Barely planning stage.
I have the basics of the city and situation, but a lot depends on whether people
want to play cops or robbers.

Law and Order: Ankh-Morpork

Still in the planning stage, though. I'm waiting for the hardback before putting more work in it.

Because it's coming out really soon, isn't mr Krom?

I've never got round to actually watching it myself, but people whose opinion I trust say that Gary, Tank Commander is quite good. Although from what I've heard, I think it's mostly about Gary re-adjusting to life back in Scotland after he's been in a warzone, so not exactly what you're looking for.
