Default (AtE) First-Aid Kit House Rule

I've been toying with some ideas for how I could abstract out the depletion of a first-aid kit do to it's consumables being used. It would be pretty tedious to keep track of every little dodad in the bag.

The latest solution I've had is to treat the kit like a body and it's usages like Hit points. Figure the HP from the weight of the kit, so a 10 lb crash kit has 4 HP. Then as you use the kit subtract the HP, when you get into negatives roll the kits HT to avoid "death", and just use the thresholds like you would a human ignoring blood loss and stunning. At -HP×5 the kit is automatically used up.


Thoughts?

That seems pretty cool. You might want to add “Major wounds to anaesthetics”, so it can run out of some stuff before other stuff.

I like it.

Another idea I had was to incorporate rolls to stay conscious by having you roll the kits HT before you go to apply first aid. If it fails the bag hasn't lost any HP, but it lacks somthing thats nessissery to treat that particular wound.

I had thought of using a cumulative roll to avoid losing a level of bonus, eventually becoming no better than improvised gear.

The previous time this question came up it was suggested that a typical kit only has enough equipment to treat one serious injury, maybe two.

Well in the system I've layed out a 1 lb first aid kit has 2 HP.

So two guaranteed usages.

2
1
0 will only have what's nessissery 50% the time
-1 will only have what's nessissery 50% the time
-2 as above, afterwards 50% chance the kit is destroyed
-3 will only have what's nessissery 38% of the time
-4 as above, afterwards 50% chance the kit is destroyed
-5 will only have what's nessissery 25% of the time
And so on till you reach -10 and the kit automatically dies.
