This 78-ton, 4-gun topsail schooner lays claim to being the founding vessel of the United States Navy. She was hired into service by General George Washington, and commanded by Nicolson Broughton. Setting off on September 5, 1775, her career ended but one month later when she was run aground by the British sloop Nautilus. Although she was saved, she was soon decommissioned as more suitable ships were found.
