Devil Monster Bass (Munchkin Adventure Time) question

Hello. There is a text on the card: wherever you defeat a demon, you go up an additional level.

I have 2 questions:

1) Do I go up an additional level if I removed monster from combat (e.g. with Pollymorph Potion)?
2) Do I go up an additional level if I defeat monster as a helper? Can it be a winning level?
