So an expensive resource heavy way to move a transportation hub a few hundred feet up? I suppose it could increase drone range quite a bit, but that sounds like a marginal savings.

Walruses are playful creatures.

But they have a slightly morbid sense of play.

According to German News, they shall cruise at 14 km (about 9 miles) height, above commercial airlines. Most of the work will be done by drones. Probably it would make delivery faster, but IMO it is easier said than done....

But what a time to be an airship pirate! :-D

But are they as playful as giraffes are heartless?

The author also covers some of the profound existential fears of being immortal, including avoiding people you don't like.

It also enables you to move that hub when the current location grows untenable for one reason or another - say population growth in another suburban region gets so high that it makes more financial sense to move your warehouse to that area instead. Hard to do with a warehouse that's anchored to the ground...

Interestingly, this makes the delivery drones cheaper. They don't need to be able to climb quickly with a load on board, because they start from altitude, and don't have to climb back up there until they've unloaded. At least, that's probably the theory.

The cost of operating the base itself would more than make up for it.

That's why it's weird and not sound business practices or completely insane.
