So an expensive resource heavy way to move a transportation hub a few hundred feet up? I suppose it could increase drone range quite a bit, but that sounds like a marginal savings.

It also enables you to move that hub when the current location grows untenable for one reason or another - say population growth in another suburban region gets so high that it makes more financial sense to move your warehouse to that area instead. Hard to do with a warehouse that's anchored to the ground...

Interestingly, this makes the delivery drones cheaper. They don't need to be able to climb quickly with a load on board, because they start from altitude, and don't have to climb back up there until they've unloaded. At least, that's probably the theory.
