Re: [SUPERS] My Unofficial Handbook to the DC Universe

Anyway, if you are interested in running a GURPS campaign featuring superheroes (or superhero-ish characters), GURPS Powers and GURPS Supers are highly recommended. GURPS Powers is, in my opinion, feels like a missing piece of the Basic Set. It actually handles a variety of Powers, which is good if you're a fan of "kitchen sink" style settings like Marvel or DC's superhero multiverses. Supers gives you the framework for building superhero archetypes; it will be up to you, though, to crunch the numbers and flesh them out into Superman, Batman, etc. Be aware it is pretty difficult because even when you can settle on a single iteration of a character, writers tend to have Batman/Superman/etc. do whatever the story calls for, rather than thinking "Oh, right. There is no way he can actually lift that much. I'd better make it lighter or approach the problem from another angle."

Re: [SUPERS] My Unofficial Handbook to the DC Universe
I meant, the Marvel one has an unofficial netbook with a compilation of the characters & stats is there an equivalent to that for DC. I know there is no "official" version & they don't have the rights. If there is one, please send me the link.
Also if there are other unofficial (but well compiled) netbooks like for other comics or TVseries/movie characters, etc. I know there is one for Highlander & Star Wars. Perhaps there are more out there. Please advise. Thanks. |

Re: [SUPERS] My Unofficial Handbook to the DC Universe
The unofficial netbook was created by the same person who created and updates the thread on these message boards. I do not believe any such thing exists for the DC version.

Re: [SUPERS] My Unofficial Handbook to the DC Universe
Hey! I'm back!
Apologies for the very long hiatus, but I'll have some more character write-ups coming out this week. Starting with my first Kryptonian to round out the JSA: Hero: Powergirl Alias: Kara Zor-L, Karen Star, Supergirl Team Affiliations: JSA, JLA Enemies: Divine (Evil Clone) Kara Zor-L used to babysit the infant Kal-L until the day the young heir to the House of L was sent away in a space-ship to avoid the destruction of their home planet Krypton. Kara was sent shortly after in a ship of her own, with clear instructions to raise and protect her young nephew. But, for reasons unknown, her ship took significantly longer to reach earth. When she arrived, Kal-L had grown into a man and a hero. Following in his footsteps, Kara became Supergirl and joined his fight for truth and justice. While not as powerful as her cousin (he had decades more time absorbing energy from the yellow sun), she was much more knowledgeable about Krypton and the life from which they'd come. Until, in the wake of an infinitely massive crisis, her entire reality was erased. Kara found herself on a different earth, ever so slightly altered in a million ways. She's the only person who remembers the world as it was. This new world had a Superman, too (Kal El), but it also had a Supergirl of its own--younger and freshly arrived from Krypton. Determined to find her own place in this new reality, and to avoid confusion with her younger, native self, Supergirl changed her name to Power Girl, changed her costume, and set off on her own. As Karen Star, she's become a successful entrepreneur. As Power Girl, she's a major force for good. People who focus too much on her costume and her, *ahem*, figure might forget that she's one of the most powerful beings on the plant. Quote:

Re: [SUPERS] My Unofficial Handbook to the DC Universe
Hero: Superman
Alias: Clark Kent, Kal El Team Affiliations: JLA Enemies: Lex Luthor, Brainiac, Metallo, Cyborg Superman, General Zod, Intergang, etc... Kal-El was the son of Jor El and Lara El scientists on the doomed planet of Krypton. When they couldn't save their world, they decided to save their infant son, sending him in a rocket to a distant planet orbiting a yellow sun. Kal El was discovered by John and Martha Kent and renamed Clark. Farmers in Kansas. The Kent's were good, moral people, and thanks to their guidance, Clark Kent dedicated his life to using his powers to help people. As Clark Kent, he is an investigative reporter for the Daily Planet. As Superman he is the most powerful and dedicated hero our planet has. Quote:
You'll notice, that he's powered down, somewhat. But still, I think, powerful enough to be considered Superman. I got rid of the freezing breath because, or all the standard powers, it just seemed the most unnecessessary. I might put it back in later. I'm not really sure I balanced out the strength vs. invulnerability properly. If I put two Kryptonians in a fist fight, they should be able to hurt each other....

Re: [SUPERS] My Unofficial Handbook to the DC Universe
What kind of setting are you expecting this to be used in if freaking Superman is only recognized 50% of the time?

The kind where he spends half his time as Clark Kent?

Re: [SUPERS] My Unofficial Handbook to the DC Universe
Am I missing something, or did you leave out the 'Freezing' option on Super Breath?

Superman gets +4 from everyone when he's Superman. And only +2 from some people when he's Clark Kent. Should he pay the same price as someone who has +4 Reputation and no secret identity (Iron Man for most of his career, for example or any of the Fantastic 4? Maybe President Lex Luthor to give a DC example?) Or what about someone who has the same value reputation in both of their identities? Should they pay less than Superman for the priviledge of actually getting to use their reputation all the time?
