Re: New Reality Seeds
So Shadowrun but a bit more than 100 years earlier?

Re: New Reality Seeds
Yes, computers are a rara avis, but it's like Shadow Run. Unlike Bright where inconsistencies overwhelm an already dull story, the ongoing Reality Quakes means the setting is supposed to be inconsistent. And PCs can become aware of this.
Mind you my focus is Chicago, because of a fantasy story I read this week... Witch: This place will go to Hell soon. Gun Moll working for the Witch: I hope that's a metaphor. The late 1920's is a juicy period to adventure in. Demi-Humans would have a harder time in Europe than America. Ireland is going through the troubles, having large portions of the population turn into Elves and Leprechauns wouldn't make things easier.

Re: New Reality Seeds
The vast majority of Demi-Humans, more than 95%, are of Caucasian/European heritage. Recently in Japan Rokurokubi and Satori have shown up. Reactions to both are mixed, but tend to be unfavorable. In Iran, some people have become Peris, their good looks seem to improve reactions to them. The ability to fly has got to reduce violence as well. There are unconfirmed reports of Vampires and Werewolves from Europe. However, Ogres, of the Cornish Breton type, more handsome than humans, but brutally strong and with razor sharp teeth (and cannibal appetites) have been confirmed in both France and England. Still, more than 90% of Demi-Humans are Elves, Trolls, Goblins, Dwarfs, or Pixie/Leprechauns.
More later...

Re: New Reality Seeds
This is starting to look like a world that might need its own thread. Certainly, it seems like one it would be fun to play a game in.

Re: New Reality Seeds
Selene-1
Selene-1 is a Q7 timeline where Terra possesses a small moon, Selene, and two tiny moons, Ersa and Pandia. Selene is located at the same distance from the Earth as Luna in Homeline, with Ersa being located in Terra-Selene L4 and Pandia being located in Terra-Selene L5. Selene is twice the diameter of Luna and, with the same density, is eight times the mass, creating much stronger tides than on Homeline. Ersa and Pandia are each the size of Luna, and they contribute to the tidal complexity of Terra. Researchers from Infinity were shocked when they realized the Terra possessed human inhabitants, but the gravitational tides of Selene seem to create cyclical natural paratronic gates that connect to every known timeline in Q7, though the cycles for individual gates vary from once a year to once a century. The inhabitants of Selene-1 are aware of paratronic travel and seem to have used it to travel across the timelines of Q7 since prehistoric times. The first among equals civilization of Selene-1 is a TL10 matriarchal society descended from the legendary Amazons of dozens of Q7 timelines that rule an Empire that dominates Europe, North Africa, and West Asia. Other important civilizations are a matriarchal East Asian civilization, a matriarchal South Asian civilization, a matriarchal Sub-Saharan African civilization, a matriarchal Andean civilization, a matriarchal Mesoamerican civilization, and a matriarchal Mississippian civilization. While men are incapable of owning the land needed to hold political or religious positions, the women of the civilizations allow them to handle business and diplomatic relations. The seven major powers maintain colonies throughout the Sol System and a dozen uninhabited timelines, but they have been uninterested in dealing with other inhabited timelines because of the male dominated societies that exist within them. |

Re: New Reality Seeds
No, a moon twice the size of Luna would be comparable to Mars in gravity and mass (0.33g and 0.08 Earths). It is 'small' because that is the planetary classification in Space for a planetary object around the size of Mars. As for the gates, they have predictable cycles in set locations, so the nations of Selene-1 have nature preserves around the gates, satellite surviellance, and nearby military units equipped with fusion weapons. As for other powers stumbling in, no one is allowed to return, and who would believe the rare individual who managed to escape? Anyway, the major nations of Selene-1 are TL10 and superscience does not work on the timeline, so what could they do?

Re: New Reality Seeds
The church could easily claim that immortal Christians were modern-day Noahs and such. Some of them lived for 900 years or so. Obviously the infidel immortals were devil worshipers.

Say a train falls through one of these gates. After the train misses it's next stop, a rescue effort is sent to find the missing train. Some emergency responders vanish, and then they bring in the military. Soldiers start dying and a terrified country seeing how outmatched they are might try something ridiculously desperate, like lobbing nuclear bombs through. It might be the prelude to an invasion. After all, if their intentions weren't ill, they would send the victims back. |
