What governments have you brought down in a game?
In the spirit of the "most valuable thing you've ever stolen in a game" thread, what governments have you brought to an end?
I think last Wednesday was the first time for me: we were a one-off GURPS Action party investigating a problem with a nuclear reactor in a fictional present-day West African country. We got out of the country with solid evidence of (a) an illegal uranium enrichment project and (b) a false-flag attack on the nuclear reactor by the country's army to blacken the name of one of their rebel movements. And then we realised that there was no way for the government to survive this... |

We changed the dominant religion of a world -- from sun worship to moon worship. It was via mind control a group of NPC's had. The hard part was figuring out that was what we needed to do and that the NPC's had that power set. And convincing them that was what we needed to do.
Our big bads had the power to possess the bodies of minorities, and where getting close to taking over that world (they were on another). So we changed the minority into a majority, and voila! mind control gone!

Re: What governments have you brought down in a game?
In a Rifts game... we nuked Chi-Town from underneath, presumably killing the entire ruling elite. (We were rifted to Discworld by the energies released and GMly fiat, so we never did find out what actually happened, though the GM hinted that Prozac ... sorry, my first group's in-joke about Emperor Prosek's name ... Prosek and his son were in Des Moines at the time the nuke went off.
It amazes me how many Rifts players think destroying one city will cripple and bring down a multi-state empire.

Just toppling Megalos, but doesn't everyone do that?

I don't think any group of PCs I've belonged to has ever done such a thing. Would you like examples from campaigns I've run?

Re: What governments have you brought down in a game?
I've run the overthrow of the (SPOILER ALERT) Demon Emperor of Megalos twice. Both times the PCs handed over the throne to the heir (I did my damndest to get a PC onto the throne the second time but it just didn't work out). They did leave the Empire in the midst of a civil war both times as the Templars didn't take kindly to the unproven and absurd allegations about what their Grand Master had been up to.
In fact overthrowing governments isn't something PCs do a lot in my games: they just destroy the evil Big Boss and leave the tricky details for other people to work out as they gallivant off across the multiverse, smugly conscious of a job well done.
