Thank you for your interest in the Wizards Forums.

Social media has changed significantly over the last ten years, and discussions about games aren't exclusive to company-hosted forums. The majority of community conversation takes place on third-party websites (such as Reddit, Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, and many other fantastic community-run websites), and it is up to us to evolve alongside our players. All information posted to the Community Forums as of November 5 has been deleted.

I guess its sad for those who went there and all that.

I'd heard about that a few months ago on a Facebook gaming group (so, yeah, pretty much what they said about social media). The general vibe was the WotC forum had developed a pretty toxic community and people who wanted civil discussion about their games had moved on.

I do see benefit in company run forum (there's a reason I come here) because it's neigh impossible to search social media based gaming groups. Evil Hat uses various forms social media as their official discussion board for Fate and it's hard to find a line of discussion or official ruling more than a few days old.

Having a dedicated forum is rather like going to one's local game store to chat about games.

Moving the operation to Facebook (or whatever) is like finding a table with gamers in a very busy McDonald's.

That's how it feels to me, anyhow.

There are dedicated archiving actions ongoing at enworld.org and giantitp.com.

I haven't visited enworld in years, but I guess I should, to find a big enough discussion about D&D 5E...
