Default opening multiple seals

Hi everyone, loving munchkin! Recently picked up Zombies and Apocalypse and having lots of fun surviving a zombie apocalypse! :D

Anyway, here is what happened (using only apocalypse cards):

-Player A kicks open a door to reveal Cthulhu so a seal gets opened. (bad stuff: dead)

-Four Horsies wander in. (bad stuff: lose a level and open a seal).

-A helper (Player B) joins the battle.

-Through interference they can't win and have to run away.

I understand for multiple deaths, only one seal gets opened.

What if the players run from the Horsies first, and both fail and then one (or more) fails against Cthulhu.. is that 3 seals that get opened (for a total of 4 because of the initial one at the start of combat)? or is the idea that only one seal should be opened at the end of a failed combat?

We ended up ruling just one seal at the end of combat.

Many thanks :)

Strictly, according to the Rules, I think you will be opening three Seals as you describe. One as each Munchkin fails to Run Away from the Horsies and one after you resolve the second player's Run Away attempt from Cthulhu. If the intended rule was that Running Away from things could only open one Seal, I think it would be worded that way instead.

This is why it is usually advisable to Run Away from monsters that can kill you first, as you won't need to Run Away from the other monsters if you are dead.

thanks Clipper.

I guess it could be quite munchkinly to force open a bunch of seals and suddenly end the game and win on points.

"If I'm going down, I'm taking you all with me!" kind of thing :)

Perhaps, but given you lose all the Items that provide you a bonus when you die, with the potential for your opponents to each take one, then I can't see anybody using that as a viable strategy to win.

If you were sure YOU could escape dying, you might happily fail to run away from the Horsies, then mess with your helper's attempts to run away from Cthulhu to try to get THEM to die. But you'd only get four seals opened if your helper obligingly agreed to run from the Horsies first (and failed). If they run from Cthulhu first (like MOST people would) you'd only open at most 3 seals including the one at the beginning of the combat.
