Default Hobbit Stone Throwing?

In The Hobbit, Bilbo seems to be able to knock giant spiders senseless with a single stone throw. In the movie Merry and Pippin do the same to armored Uruks. Is there any way for thrown stones to be a viable weapon for a character who doesn't have huge ST?

Well, High Skill in it would enable them to hit less armored hit locations. Don't forget that everytime you hit Head Locations (Face or Skull), even if you didn't deal enough damage to do a Major Wound, it still warrants for a HT check to avoid being knocked down and stunned. If you want to go with Cinematic, I guess something along with Striking ST with a limitation (only with thrown stones).

The Two Towers shows an Uruk take a hit to his steel helmet and fall senseless. But as far as I can see that attack should have had a small chance of doing any damage at all, even before armor.

Hitting the Head or Vitals and dealing enough damage to give a shock penalty causes an HT roll. B420 and B419.

A head shot B399
Skull (DR 2) has a -10 to knockdown and stun HT roll in B420
Face has a -5 to knockdown and stun HT roll in B420
Eyes Injury greater than HP/10 blinds the eye. I would recommend an appropriate Fear Check at -5 to -10.

If the hobbits are assumed to hit the face for 1cp of damage (assuming open faced helms) then 1cp of crushing damage would give orcs HT-5 vs stun/knockdown.

A hit to the face ought to do it, thanks. Although in the movie Pippen gets a hit on the Uruk's forehead, and was probably going up against at least DR 5...

?? I thought that Skull or Face hits forces you to check against HT and you only get the penalties on Major Wounds on these hit locations ? For example: normal hit to the Skull = check against HT and major wound to the Skull = check against HT -10 ?

The only problem is that a average-sized stone thrown by a Hobbit, who probably has ST 8 or 9, would be doing 1d-4 or worse.

Maybe it could be done as a specialty of Throwing Art (only small, baseball sized objects) that doesn't require TBAM.

Or rather a racial perk "racial skill mastery (thrwoing art)" which counts as TBAM for that skill

Weapon Master (rock)
Striking ST (thrown rocks only)
Imbuement (I don't have that one, but there's probably something to grant the rock an armor divisor or stunning)
Affliction (stun; requires to-hit roll with rock)
