Default GURPS Simple Fantasy

My revision of GURPS Ultra-Lite, which I am calling GURPS Simple Fantasy, is now pretty much finished. I was able to get in touch with Dr. Kromm and verify that using the GURPS Lite 3rd Edition magic rules with my handout would be okay, since the magic system didn't change between editions.

For anyone new who wasn't aware of what I was doing here, GURPS Simple Fantasy is designed to be a free handout to help new players get into GURPS. It's 8 pages long; the first four are simplified rules to help new players make real GURPS characters and run adventures, and the last four pages are a simple starter adventure.

I feel I'm pretty much done with this, but feedback is always appreciated. There is no perfect thing, after all.

Suggested revision:

from "Carousing (HT/E) – Partying is a skill!"

to something like "Carousing (HT/E) – Partying is fun, but partying to impress is a skill!"

Over all, I think it's very good. Thanks for putting it together.

Problems:
The armor for the captain of the guard should be "Scale Mail" not "Scale Male".

The sample archer at the end is way too weak. Perhaps, lower their IQ to 9 & up their ST to 12?

It probably shouldn't be either. Try ”Scale Armor".

Thank you, those are good catches. I basically just dashed off those 60-point opponents.

On the other hand, they are the opponents in an adventure designed for new players...perhaps minmaxing them isn't a good idea.

I was comparing them to the melee guards. The Melee guards do 2d damage, the archers 1d-2. If a PC is wearing a leather jacket (DR1) the have a 50% chance of doing no damage.

I see that you have updated the stats though, and I think what you have now is more "realistic"/Balanced.

Amazing!

That is exactly what, in my humble opinion, GURPS is lacking to attract newcomers : very simple rules (but still fully compatible with GURPS*) and an adventure to play with those rules.

DFRPG boxed set is a first answer to that problem. GURPS Simple Fantasy is a second great one!

Just a hint, though: some further adventures would be very welcome.

Indeed, another problem with GURPS is that if ready to play adventures do exist, they are always oneshots. Then, the Game Master has to do all the preparation work by himself if he want to go on with the same Player Characters ...

So, having a little continuing series of adventures to try GURPS rules would be awesome.

* Official GURPS Ultralite rules are very good too but, in my humble opinion, they are not close enough to other GURPS rules.
