So the market does not yet exist for downloadable 3D designs to be printed at home?

Personally, I prefer 28 or 30 mm miniatures. But, only for games where tactics are abstracted.

A game with the tactical detail and occaisional need to have more than one character in the same hex that we see in TFT, needs really good quality counters that can take a lot of handling. Counters make it easy to see the tactical situation, miniatures sadly do not.

For me, miniatures only look good if they are in scale with the ground scale. The problem is that doesnt work for games requiring players fingers to reach in and manipulate things. I think the current TFT approach is the right way to go.

Thanks. Based on the market trends, we believe that The Fantasy Trip has potential and we're working to embrace the tactical, boardgame-like side of adventuring.

It exists, but even with sub-$200 3D printers, it's not a large market. If you look at it - $200 for a printer, $20~ish for a kg of filament, and the time to tweak, fiddle, curse, blaspheme, and finally get a good print....

That's a lot of pawns/minis/tokens/et cetera.

I have a 3D printer, and don't really see a lot of value in printing minis, unless I need dozens of the same figure, or can only find the figure as a downloadable file. Now, I did 3D print a Melee map and scatter terrain, but few minis.

It also isn't a tiny market:

It's an awesome technology, to be sure.

By the way, with the new maps and counters in front of my face, I feel like they did a great job getting the most out of the hex-and-chit format. Nothing about it seems cheap or bland.

One set of counters I'd acquire immediately, if they were available, would be dark-color background versions of the new Melee and Wizard counters. These make it very easy to distinguish between groups of combatants. While it wouldn't be too complicated to make my own using Photoshop, I'd much prefer official, professionally produced counters.

Would these be welcome game components to anyone else?

The new maps are pretty but I can only see using them for demos to attract attention to the table and look good.

The hexes are huge and it makes the maps enormous for the number of hexes you get.

So as much as I love getting new map and counter art to use, I'm going to want it in digital format so I can print it for the 1" hexes that matches all my existing stuff and that allows much more battlefield per table space.

I would totally support that! (Of course, I buy extra copies of counters for just about every game that has them...)
