OK. That's it ...
So now I've decided to play Car Wars. 30 years ago one of my buddies tried to get me to play a hundred times but I always said "Nah, lets play Ogre/Melee/Rommel's Panzers/Chitin I" or whatever.
Better late than never! Anyway the profusion of rules/supplements is making my head spin. Where do I start quickly, simply and cheaply? Wanna debut Car Wars at my first "Family with Adult Children Game Night" next weekend. Any advice appreciated. Thunder |

In the Beginning...
IMO, start with the "Mini Car Wars" cheapie from either WH23 or e23... If you like it, then get Compendium. Then, and only then... If you can find it, Uncle Al's Catalogue from Hell is nice. If you plan on using it as an RPG, you'll want the Road Atlases for G:AD, and quite possibly want G:AD1, but IIRC, both of those are going to be dead tree finds only. |

Re: OK. That's it ...
I suggest starting with Compendium... but only print out the fire and movement stuff for cars. Try a game just with Killer Karts in order to get the hang of the rules. There's a lot of ways you could go after that. See here for more starting out advice and scenario suggestions.
I personally dislike the old "jump start" rules and the mini CAR WARS games. If you want a simplified game, go with one of the 5th edition sets from warehouse23. Your mileage may vary.... |

Re: OK. That's it ...
Thanx for the responses guys I appreciate it. I want to introduce the game to my youngest daughter and her entourage. They are in their early twenties and don't have very long attention spans. Jeffr0 you mentioned you dislike the mini CW rules. Can you elaborate?

Re: OK. That's it ...
Okay, I looked at it....
Mini CAR WARS is the same thing as the jump start rules that debuted in the Deluxe edition.
Okay, so it isn't that bad. Several of those rules are from the pocket box edition or else ended up in GURPS Autduel first edition and CAR WARS 5th edition. To me... it just isn't CAR WARS.... Last edited by Jeffr0; 02-06-2012 at 10:01 AM. |

Hiya
could you do me a favour and post the stats for the bikes and sidecars please? I mostly just want to see how they've come along from the original box set (which I passed on many moons ago) Thanks |

Re: OK. That's it ...
Hm.... The Outlander is not in the Compendium!?
I guess you can't get stats for that legally as I don't think it was in the Vehicle Guide, either.... |
