How Devilish. En-Light-ening, even.

I just bought the GURPS version and was disappointed to see it used the regular magic system for the most part.
I know it is a Third edition book but was hoping it used Realm or at least Voodoo as a base.
I know the setting does not get a lot of draw, how true to the source is the GURPS conversion? How happy are the fans here?

Realm magic was introduced to GURPS with Thaumatology. I agree that the spell mechanics don't fit Songs very well, but adding another new subsystem would have started to make it not seem much like GURPS of the time.

Never actually played it; I've always used the core IN system.

I used the GURPS conversion for two long campaigns and was quite happy with it. Frankly the fact that Song mechanics were based on spells was never that important. Essence cost, Disturbance, resistance, effect, and Bob's your uncle.

(That said, note that my two campaigns were a bit odd -- the first was human-centered, and the second was mostly set in the Marches.)

*nod* Yeah, the mechanics of Songs from IN are basically the mechanics of Spells -- you roll under a TN, you have a relatively fixed effect, and there's a fixed minimum cost. (The spells mentioned were mostly there to keep me honest on what had been playtested -- sometimes extensively, as my spouse was active in attempting to find (& exploit) rules-crocks in Magic for some time -- as having reasonable fatigue-costs.)

Edit: & to provide access to baseline assumptions in case the text was too vague somewhere.

As true as we could make it, within certain limits. I was least-happy with Kyriotate resonance, but we couldn't import Forces as a new "something everyone has" mechanic. I would personally just assign Forces based on IN and run Kyriotates as per IN for that.

Please forgive typos, terseness; cat with health problems is insisting on eating from palm of hand & it's hard to type. Also shielding keyboard from drooled-on cat-treat kibble. >_<

There's scope for argument there, since Realms are a re-write. I deliberately ignored it for that post. I suspect using the M:tA system in GURPS: In Nomine would have involved an unholy fight over rights.

I have to admit, I'm curious about converting GURPS In Nomine to 4th edition rules. Has anyone worked out stuff like Vessels and Songs for 4th edition? GURPS Transhuman Space: Changing Times replaces the old Vessel advantage with "Ally with the Minion enhancement, and a Puppet", but I don't think that works here. I think just using Alternate Form will be sufficient, since that's what Vessels are, essentially.

Not sure how to replace Songs, though.
