With only a few grams of iron in an entire human body, that's going to take a LOT of killin'.
But if you just care about materials that can be smelted and processed that technically came from living creatures, then you're not bound by much at all.

I doubt it's more than the hyperbolic 10,000 sacrifices suggested, unless you're only working with anemic babies.

Yeah, you don't need a thousand people to forge a bloodiron sword. Errr...that's what I heard anyway.

Psha, need? Who needs only a thousand sacrifices when you can have millions?

We aren't including waste though.

But as to aluminum, it really depends on what TL magic boosts effective metallurgy.
It doesn't have to stay at exactly 1800s as valuable as gold levels.
It's more an issue of working backwards. How valuable and rare do you want it to be? Then decide on what techniques/spells mages use to get there.

Unless you absolutely need a cutting edge on your "sword-staff," a bokken fits the bill perfectly. Its made from wood and wielded just like a katana.

OK, a few things to say:

1. I figured that at least some would be coming from Earth, and that Mages would be using Shape Metal to get the desired object. There might be local production, but would depend upon demand.

2. As for why I want it, you can enchant something with Staff and then stick an axe head on it, but you don't get optimum use out of it, hitting someone with the axe head doesn't count as touching them with the Staff. For that the axe head must be made of something valuable and included in the enchantment.

As for the booken idea, it's not actually an improvement upon a simple wooden stick, strangely enough.

Is this some kind of house rule? In any case aluminum wouldn't have a set market value. It would be too rare for that.

Are you talking about the second bit? No, that's in Magic, page 70:

Any rod-shaped piece of organic material (wood, bone, ivory, etc.) up to 6 feet long. May be decorated with other materials, like gems and precious metals.

<snort> Sure, that axe head is purely decorative.
