Rapid Healing and Regeneration
I just got Basic Set: Campaigns for Christmas, and I'm digesting the non-Lite rules for healing. Something confuses me here.
IIRC, if you have no particular healing Advantage and get no medical care, then every 24 hours, if you rested and ate, you get a HT roll and on a success, you regain 1 HP. If you have Rapid Healing, every 24 hours, if you rested and ate, you roll HT+5 and on a success, you regain 1 HP. If you have Very Rapid Healing, every 24 hours, if you rested and ate, you roll HT+5 and on a success, you regain 2 HP. If you have Regeneration (Slow), which includes Rapid Healing in it at no extra cost, then every 12 hours you automatically regain 1 HP whether you rested or not, and every 24 hours you also get to roll HT+5 and regain another 1 HP on a success. So in a 24 hour period after injury, with Rapid Healing you can recover 0 or 1 HP, with Very Rapid Healing you can recover 0 or 2 HP, and with Regeneration (Slow) you recover a minimum of 2 HP and a maximum of 3 HP. But Rapid Healing is 5 pts, Very Rapid Healing is 15 pts, and Regeneration (Slow) is 10 pts. Am I reading this right, or did I misunderstand something? If I understand correctly how these Advantages work, then shouldn't Very Rapid Healing be cheaper than Regeneration (Slow)? Last edited by Vaevictis Asmadi; 12-30-2008 at 11:00 AM. |

Re: Rapid Healing and Regeneration
Yes, but "Regeneration includes Rapid Healing (p. 79) at no extra cost."

Re: Rapid Healing and Regeneration
Regeneration is an exotic trait: "Exotic advantages are traits that ordinary humans cannot have without ultra-tech body modification or similar tampering..."
Very Rapid Healing is not. So, your bog standard human would not be able to get Regeneration...and that Rapid Healing/Very Rapid Healing would be very nice indeed. |

Re: Rapid Healing and Regeneration
Thanks for the link.
It should still cost a reasonable number of points. In a supers game where exotic traits are allowed, a strictly better advantage is cheaper. That really makes no sense. I'm not sure if this needs to be an errata for the cost, or if I should just use RPK's idea that Very Rapid Healing doubles every HP return. |

In a supers game you're dealing with double to ten times the starting points. If someone wants to quibble over a few points at that point they're really a lost cause.

Re: Rapid Healing and Regeneration
You're reading it right. The difference, so far as I can see, is that Regeneration is an Exotic advantage, whereas Rapid Healing is not; if you're playing normal humans, you can't have Regeneration without working it out in advance with the GM, and there will presumably be some sort of Unusual Background cost attached.
Note that if you're playing in a cinematic or supernatural game where Regeneration is an option, Regeneration includes Rapid Healing, so it's a double bargain.

Re: Rapid Healing and Regeneration
I don't see how the price goofiness is justified simply by one advantage being unavailable in certain campaigns. What if somebody is trying to make racial templates and the costs are all mixed up?
In any case, my question is not "Does this impact your own campaign?", my question is "What are more consistent prices for these two advantages?" |

Re: Rapid Healing and Regeneration
It's one of those bits missed in transition. Just get rid of RH/VRH, and stop beating the dead horse. IIRC even Kromm confessed it was a minor messup.
