Even then . . . if a sensible character is separated from his whetstone, s/he can probably find a hard enough stone to improve the edge with a short amount of looking.

Honing is not sharpening. Slamming swords into anything metal and even softer stuff for too long must mess up the edge enough to need the occasional professional sharpening... I would imagine.

As it is the myth that swords were used as edged maces clubbing each other like cavemen is quite prevalent.

Hi all,

I have some difficulty to know if the sword is (in gurps terms) a Shortsword, a Cut and Thrust (Jian?) or a Broadsword ?

http://www.taoistmasterblog.com/han-...demonstration/

But I think it has a certain level of ornate, and must be a fine quality for damascus blade.

Thanks for help :)

GURPS has a cut-off point at 24" of blade. I don't see any information the blade length and I don't know if the guy holding it is short or not, but I'd guess that this is slightly above that. But I'd not object to using either skill to use it.

I think the 1024 folds might defeat the purpose of folding in general though. I also don't trust anyone using that much all upper case name dropping like DAMASCUS steel.
Also, China's reputation as of late might mean the sword has too much arsenic.

I didn't listen to the videos, but the spelling read like somebody who isn't completely familiar with English yet.

However, the process described sounds like what is now called Damascus steel. And 1024 folds just means that the metal is folded 10 times.

Does anybody have any sites for good quality swords that aren't priced more than the family car?

A mono-steel sword of modern materials made by an ABS master could be under a thousand dollars if it was purely functional.

To wit:

Should there be a quality lower than cheap to explain work machetes so common in modern jungles? I doubt they could cost hundreds of dollars.
