Yes I heard about the fire issue, my connectors appear to be genuine however. I am keeping an eye on them though.

I just recently purchase an Ender 5 and saw your progress on the discord server. I thought those models were from that kickstarter. I was going to buy into that one but SJG has been beating me up a bit to much as of late. They look good, though.

Also, the Ender 3/5 do not have thermal overrun protection enabled in their firmware. It is worth the effort to install a bootloader and upgrade the Marlin for safety sake....unless, of course, you're really into fire.

Seriously, I've got no problem replacing the connectors if there could be an issue. A couple minutes with a soldering iron and high-temp connectors - even if not XT60s - would solve that particular problem.

Here's an oddball question. How hard is it to extend the range of something like this by a couple mm? The Ender 5 is tempting me for its almost-12" vertical range, but getting an actually-12" vertical range could mean the difference on whether I spend the rest of this year learning to make silicon molds and cast resin.

Here's the over-educated answer: just use the Roman foot measurement instead of the Imperial. 1 Roman pes = .971 Imperial foot, or 296mm.

I only use Imperial Russian measurements: lines and arshins.

More seriously, I have absolutely no idea. To be blunt, the 3D printing community has always turned me off, so I've not done much research lately.

Non-trivial. Approximately all these systems run on either rack and pinion (horizontal) or nut/bolt (vertical) arrangements, and you need repeatably sub-mm precision in positioning. Within a range of printers, the main thing that makes the bigger models cost more is size.

Bah. I was hoping for 'push your luck with firmware' or 'use a smaller stopper' since it's less than a 5mm difference...but the potential for rod / frame modifications is a level of effort that isn't worth the risk of damage to the machine. Even if I do step up to the 5 (because I like the idea of a Z-axis table)...for that particular project, resin it is.
