Default 1e AD&D MM inspired "Evil Humanoids"

For my conversion of Keep on the Borderlands I created my own "Evil Humanoid" stat blocks inspired by bits of the descriptions in the 1e AD&D MM. I apologize for not formatting the stat blocks properly, but after all the time I spent on them I didn't feel up to spending another couple of hours formatting 31(!) monster stat blocks.

Some general notes: Equipment choices and the accompanying weapon skills choices were based on what is WYSIWIG for the miniatures I own, almost all of which are from Reaper's Bones line. Stats were roughly based on the equivalent monsters in DFRPG. Disadvantage traits were chosen based on the descriptions in the MM. They have Teeth (Sharp) even though it doesn't appear in DFRPG, mostly to remind me to calculate Bite damage correctly. Goblinic armor is the poor quality stuff these creatures wear, the types made from metal can be sold for scrap (the types made from leather are soiled with excrement and worth nothing), I calculated the value by dividing the cost of the armor by two and then dividing by six and taking that number and giving it "$1dx" multiplier. This makes the maximum possible value half of the cost of the armor. I would recommend calculating this value after they lug it back to town and try to sell it to the local smith for scrap (that's how I will be doing it, but you do you). All the stat blocks were given Brawling at DX+2 so they all have their brawling damage calculated at +1 damage per die.

Please, as always, feel free to tweak, mod, change whatever you like. I am posting these in the hope that people find them interesting/useful and might save someone some time. Enjoy.

Kobolds are described as hating Gnomes and attacking them on sight (hence Intolerance (Gnomes)) and enjoying killing (Bloodlust). I gave them Traps despite that not being emphasized until later editions.

Goblins are described as hating Dwarves and Gnomes (Intolerance) and enjoying torture (Sadism). I liked the poison they use in DFRPG so I gave them Poisons. As they are listed as Lawful Evil I gave them Sense of Duty (Clan or Tribe) to make them "Cooperative" or "Organized" evil.

Orcs are described as hating Elves (Intolerance), bullying weaker humanoids (Bully), and being highly likely to fight other humanoids in the absence of a strong leader (Bad Temper). They have no particular "special" skills beyond Prospecting (they are mentioned as fair miners). Orcs are Lawful Evil in 1e so they have Sense of Duty (Tribe or Clan).

Like Orcs, Hobgoblins are described as being bullies of the lesser humanoids (Bully) and likely to trade insults or blows with rival tribes although less likely than Orcs (hence the higher control number on Bad Temper). Like the other Lawful Evil Humanoids (Goblins and Orcs) I gave them Sense of Duty (Tribe or Clan). I also gave them Born War Leader and Tactics to reflect their militaristic nature.

Gnolls are described as disliking work (hence Lazy and no Prospecting skill) and getting along with other bands of Gnolls and other monsters as long there is no major disparity in strength (Chummy). They are said to occupy any climate other than arctic or arid (Temperature Tolerance 1). As Hyena creatures I felt Discriminatory Smell and Tracking were fitting.

Bugbears are described as enjoying torture (Sadism) and Gluttony just kind of felt fitting I guess because they are big? I gave them higher Stealth because they are mentioned as being particularly good at surprising foes.

The Bugbear Cheiftain's weapon Great Club is a weapon of my own invention that is designed to occupy the space between a Mace and Maul (Stats: SW+4 cr, Reach 1,2, Parry 0U, Cost $70, Weight 9, Min ST 12‡). I designed it to be used by ST 24 Ogres 1-handed.

Those are pretty awesome!

Some of them I might call out can do a shield rush, inflicting knockdown on PCs can be brutally effective

I am glad you like them, I grew up playing 1e and 2e, but also GURPS 3eR. I love DFRPG and want to support it anyway I can.

And yes Shield rushes are a great tactic for many of these monsters (although their mostly move 4 might limit the effectiveness somewhat).
