Bloodstones
Bloodstones are enchanted like Powerstones, but produce twice the capacity.
Bloodstones can't be recharged through fatigue or the local mana field. Instead these gain one point of power for every five hits the weapon the stone is attached to inflicts on a living humanoid or other animal with an IQ of 4 or higher. (Down to zero ST, no gains from overkill.) Note fractional points as not all the ST needs to come from the same critter. (So you could stab five rats (but not IQ 2 tiny spiders!) to death with your bloodstone dagger/staff in order to recharge one point of power.)

Re: Bloodstones
When I saw the subject line I was hoping you might be referencing Bloodstone by the late Karl Edward Wagner -- he was a friend of mine. I recommend his Kane novels to anyone looking for seriously good sword & sorcery.

Re: Bloodstones
Quote:
EGO sword has telepathy with the owner. Has Persuasiveness spell which it uses (at no Fatigue to sword) to get what it wants. It clamors for blood to energize its various spells. The more hero kills with it, the more power it gets and the more it can do. It thrives on prestige. Edit: The Ego Sword would have the Bloodstone in the hilt.
