Does SJG prefer the money for add-ons added to the initial pledge or after the campaign in the manager ? I plan to buy the 4 mats but I know you dislike "unattributed" money in the KS.

Completely your call. You will select add-ons in the BackerKit pledge manager.

The concern has been adding shipping money to your Kickstarter pledge. We were asked not to do that on the Fantasy Trip ks campaign, when it was looking tight as to whether we were gonna get the Pocket Box edition.

That might've been because of the cuts involved. IIRC Backerkit's cut is less than Kickstarter's cut, so if a bunch of people started kicking for shipping trying to squeak out an expensive-to-manufacture stretch goal it could end up hurting the company pretty badly.

No. According to the campaign page, "Add-ons are only available as additions to a reward level. The "no reward" option is not eligible to select add-ons."

That's part of it but not the whole problem. The other issue was that adding shipping to the pledge totals could have committed us to manufacturing stretch goals that the campaign didn't actually fund. If we made $100,000 and needed $80,000 of that to manufacture the project including all the stretch goals, and then Kickstarter took $10,000 and shipping cost us another $15,000, suddenly we're in the hole. (Numbers are not accurate and are chosen for illustrative purposes only.)
