Default Ogre Macrotures

Check this out...

http://www.sjgames.com/ogre/products/macrotures/

I know this is nothing new to most of you (I remember when they first showed up), but I'm curious about them, as I didnt have the means to pursue them at that time. Did these ever make it to mass production? Was there ever a casting other than the GEV? (And did that even make it for sale?)

This would have been a sweet stretch goal towards the end of Kickstarter...it would be great to play on a truly massive scale! Perhaps there will be an interest down the road... (Personally, I doubt enough of one, but a guy can dream!)

These were available through Warehouse 23 for a period of time. I don't know if it would be considered mass production, but I think there are a fair number of them out there. The GEV was the only Macroture that made it onto production. I always hoped the PE heavy tank would get produced as well someday.

I'd love an Ogre Mark V Macroture, but it would probably have to be transported on a trailer behind my car.

Aren't the macrotures "only" 28mm scale or 1/60 or something like that. Then, using the blueprint measurements, a Mark V macroture would be 42cm x 22cm x 12cm (1.5 x 1 x 0.5 feet). You can fit it in a carry-on suitcase.

Or, another way to look at it, the minis are 6mm, so the macroture is about 5x larger in each dimension.

Just doing some quick mental math....

For the basic scenario of Ogre, you'd need 12 armor units and 20 infantry. Say you can sell 6 infantry for the same as one armor unit. The GEV went for $20 each... So 12 armor units x $20 (taking off shoes...), plus 3.33 sets of infantry also at $20/set is....

(Tick, tock...)

....$306.67.

Add a Mark III Ogre ($50?), plus shipping and we're talking $400+ just to play the basic scenario!

Somehow, I'm strangely ok with that...! Is that wrong?

(Just DON'T tell my wife!)

D.

PS...the Advanced Scenario with 20 armor and 30 infantry would run $500 before the Mark V Ogre, which I couldn't even begin to guess at that cost...

Don't forget inflation. It might be near $1,000 now.

If you want an Ogre Mark V to be in scale with the MAcroture, here you go

The big one is 16 1/4inches long, and is as big as I could go on a 11x17 printer.

Hmmm, I might just have to run one that big off on my plotter...

Now to get 3d cardstock/balsa/whatever (printable from PDF) versions of the rest of the units. Then a person could realistically talk about making a whole army. :)

The 3D units are easy enough to deal with; the trick would be finding 3D versions of the 2D units (armor, infantry). If nothing else, there seems to be a selection of futuristic vehicles in 25-28mm and of course plenty of infantry, at a not necessarily absurd price.
