Default GURPS startgate Universe

Has anyone tried to stat the various things from Stargate universe in GURPS? If not because the setting would be fun to play in because some of the concepts in it would be really nifty to nick for other settings.

If you can get to the old Pyramid files, there was a Campaign In a Box which was pretty much Stargate with the numbers filed off.

I hope that helps.

Otherwise, Stargates are pretty much just machines with specialised warping abilities.

I know of nothing in the series that's a huge problem. There G-36s (the standard assault rifle on SGU) in HT.

A "Kino" (or however they spell it) is a Scout Robot (Contragrav model) from UT.

The Destiny is a pretty standard Starship except for its' refuelling mode. It's got a Main Battery fixed forward and a Tertiary battery (partially damamged) of turret weapons. Both are some sort of Blaster. There's force shields and a sort of warp/hyperdrive FTL ssytem.

Alien tech is all very vague and seldom important in it's details.

An SGU gearbook is standing between a GM and an SGU campaign even less than most SF franchises.

Things from Stargate SG-1, or Stargate: Atlantis? From Stargate Universe? Or all of the previous?

I would suggest you to read Johnny1A.2 Orichalcum Universe, its a really good setting for this kind of stuff

The Stargate 'verse done as cinematic game is a nice place to give wildcard skills a workout. Carter and McKay have Physical Science! and Engineering!, Daniel has Archeology!, Mitchell has Pilot!.

In a more realistic context, all of these can be replaced with similar talents. It's a nice example of how talents can replace high IQ or high DX to allow different character niches to excel without making them cookie cutters of each other.

I probably wouldn't try to stat out the stargate itself. It seems to mostly do what the GM needs it to do in any given scenario.

I'm often tempted to run "SG-1 as it happened in my head". Given the specialized nature of the characters (each of them has their own niche), the structured nature of the settings (the PC's have a clearly defined superior officer who can tell them what to do and outline their mission parameters for them), the opportunity for both combat heavy and non-combat scenarios, and the fact that there can be pretty much anything on the other side of the gate, an SG campaign that discards the meta-arc of the franchise could easily serve as an introduction not only to GURPS, but to PnP roleplaying as a whole.

If I were going to run it, I'd start the game out somewhere in the middle of the pilot of SG-1. That is, after the movie, but before we commit to the main cast of characters and keeping open the idea that Hammond could call on someone other than Jack O'Neil and Samanthat Carter to send through the gate. One could easily even ignore or diminish the Goa'uld in favor of a homegrown baddie.

As ships built using Starships of the appropriate size (which has to be mostly guessed at). The very smallest drones (as seen in planetside attacks) might be Contragrav Warbots as per UT.

I'm using Omnilingual, Scholar! and Science! for my Jackson/Carter replacements (well, one Carter with some Jackson elements and a Jackson replacement) built for the SG/ISW crossover that doesn't seem to go anywhere, and use Medic! (from MH) on the team, while thinking about guns! and pilot!
I'm still uncertain about giving the Carter/Jackson mix Inventor! (from MH, too) though.

My thought was always that you could easily assume one of the other SG teams is having just as many adventures as SG-1.
