Default Quick shotgun question.

I'm playing in a friends very well run zombie campaign and have a quick question about shotgun pellets, I understand that a shotgun at very short range does damage differently, and that it's 1/2 x number of pellets times pellet damage.

I'm wondering if the damage for this type remains Pi- when it's treated as a single blast. Not saying it's unrealistic to treat it as such, it just has the unfortunate effect of making shotguns poor zombie slayers as the damage divisor for unliving makes the shotgun even at point blank do virtually no damage.

Yes. You also multiply the target's DR by the same amount.

Depends on your zombies. Note that zombies who have Injury Tolerance: Unliving do not automatically get IT: No Vitals or IT: No Brain, and that a Pi- gunshot to those locations gets its full x3 or x4 bonus after DR, so shooting zombies who have and need brains (eg: Romero-style) in the Skull hit location will drop them exactly as easily as it drops a Human, all else being equal.

Also note that shotguns doing pi- is actually a mistake, they're supposed to be straight-up pi.

IIRC 3rd ed. used pi- for shoties. you may be caught in some kind of time paradox.

Sadly something that keeps getting mentioned even five years later :-(.

Greenneck could be caught in a dimensional paradox. Which is scary, given he literally lives on the far side the ridge from me.

No, it had cr-, cr+ and cr++. In 4th ed, they evolved to the different flavors of pi, to differentiate them further from cr attacks.

Well of course, it says pi- in the book, so it's understandable that people would think that's what it's supposed to be.

Frankly, I don't remember shotguns doing cr- either. But it was a long time ago.
