Default Super ST question

If you have generic Super ST and also Lifting Super ST, is each one added separately, or do you sum the generic and lifting ST number to determine Lifting ST?

For example, if a character has ST 20, Super ST +12, and Lifting Super ST +8, would their Lifting ST be 40/270 or 40/5020?

In this case I would sum them.

Since Super-ST is a metatrait, comprised of Lifting ST plus Striking ST (plus bonus HP), you would just add together the levels, so it would be 40/5,020.

Super ST is technically not a meta-trait; it's ST (Super-Effort, +300%), as per Supers p. 24. That +300% is factored into other modifiers that may be applied, such as Size and power modifiers.

F'rex, Super ST +16/+1000 (Size (SM +2), -20%; Super-Effort, +300%; Super, -10%) ends up with a net +270% for [592].

What I'd do in the OP's case is add Lifting ST to the base ST before applying the Super ST. ST 20 + Lifting ST +8 + Super ST +12/+200, so it'd be ST 32/220 with Lifting ST 40/228.

Clear as mud?

No, it explains it in the under the hood section as Lifting ST (Super Effort, +400) plus Striking ST (Super Effort, +400%), they make it a +300% increase to ST to simplify things. They just throw in the HP because it is a rounding error, as it does not scale.

Well, per the "Under the Hood" section in Supers, the pricing was based on taking the cost of Lifting ST with a +400% modifier, Striking ST with a +400% modifier, and base HP, rounding the cost, and turning it into a modifier for ST. So it's not exactly a meta-trait, but the intention is sort of there.

Also, I think you missed the point of my post. It's Super Lifting ST, not regular Lifting ST. There wouldn't be any confusion if it was regular Lifting ST.

Ah, yeah, I missed that. With Super-Effort on Lifting, do what AlexanderHowl suggests.

if Lifting ST [2] is +400% and Striking ST [5] is +400% then collectively to work out to ST [10] being +300% the enhancement for HP [2] would probably have to be less than 300%

In terms of buying one level...

Super Lifting ST [10]
Super Striking ST [25]
...
Super ST [40]

+300% is basically x4 so 10x4=40
+400% is basically x5 so 2x5=10 and 5x5=25

The difference between these sums (35 and 40) is 5 points, meaning that Super HP is worth 5 points instead of 2... which works out to being a +150% enhancement for HP.

I can't remember if it actually does anything though, will have to reread supers later.

Lifting ST is 3, not 2. 3 x 5 is 15 and 5 x 5 is 25, which add to 40, making HP 0, or -100%. That's a simple "round down" rule to make the calculation easier. You don't pay extra for HP and you don't get any boost to HP from Super Strength.
