I'm with you on the Health Stat -- I think it would solve a huge number of problems!

You know what would really be funny. . .

The new The Fantasy Trip does amazingly well. SJ Games starts pouring in more resources to meet the demand for more material. Guy McLimore and team are compelled to evolve the game into . . . GURPS redux.

It happened once before.

Not while I have anything to do with it. I think most everyoone at SJG would say the same. TFT means too much to us to use it to redo GURPS. SJG *has* GURPS and a wonderful thing it is, too. Why on Earth would we want another?

The line will get bigger, count on it. But it won't get bigger in the same way.

Seconded. There is no reason for system bloat or rules over-complication. A more valuable form of support comes down to play aids, adventures, and more things to kill.

I would be extremely puzzled if TFT turned into anything GURPS-like. TFT may be an ancestor of GURPS with some similarities, but although I never actually played TFT the design goals seem quite different in the two systems. Changing TFT into something GURPS-like would mean completely losing sight of what it tried to accomplish in the first place, in my opinion.

Heroes and Other Worlds uses a health-like stat, and I think it degrades the game significantly (at least as implemented there). Anyway, I could see expanding the idea of secondary stats that appears in ITL (e.g., 'Bravery', etc.), but I wouldn't want to see any more core stats.

This is the best post ever on the internet.

This, in my opinion, is exactly right. Totally different design goals, and totally different systems designed to get you there. Some superficial similarities showing their common roots, but that's about it. Trying to morph TFT back into GURPS defeats the entire purpose of both TFT and GURPS. The beauty of having both systems is that the players get to decide on their personal level of crunchiness, and can switch back and forth as they desire. For a guy who's never played TFT, bert pretty much nailed it.

I agree with this, and it's a great relief to hear it.
