Default OGRE...Paneuropean Huscarl

...The OGRE MINIATURES Rules say that:

"The rebuilt templates included several modifications and improvements;"

"The Mark V variants produced at Stuttgart were distinctively different from any Combine units."

"Some versions of the Huscarl dispensed entirely with the characteristic Ogre tower."
[p.11]

I noticed the new OGRE Record Sheets are using one that looks exactly like a
Combine Mark V. :(

Any chance we may get to see a new illustration for the "Huscarl"
as it is described in the OGRE MINIATURES Rules?

I did a heavy custom sculpt and paint job on a Mark V a few years ago.

Here is video footage of my variant Huscarl rolling out of the Gdansk Factory in 2081 as filmed by the Paneuropean Ministry of Propaganda:

...and would these "several modifications and improvements" yield any in-game differences over the Combine Mark V?
I would put forth the argument...yes, it would...somehow.
*Movement increase?
-OR-
*Armor increase for it's Main Batteries, or Secondary Batteries, or Missile Racks?...some, or all of them?

Maybe increased Armor while decreasing it's Speed -OR- decreasing Armor while increasing Speed?

Of course the cost would have to be tweeked to reflect any such increases.

It would be a nice touch, giving the Huscarl some in-game usable difference over the Combine one.
Not simply: "It's the same thing, just with a different Paneuropean paint job".

PLEASE DISREGARD THE PREVIOUS POST UNDER THE SAME TITLE
with Huscarl being misspelled "Husacarl"...

It was a gaff of epic proportions.
My apologies and Thanks for your understanding. :)

The Iron Cross on the glacis of that Huscarl is a nice touch...

A Huscarl is just the same as a Mark V in game terms. If you say that the Paneuropeans changed the Mark V template enough that it was different to the Mark V in game terms, then you deny them the use of regular Mark Vs. And it also raises the question of why the Combine could not or did not also improve their own Mark Vs, if such improvements were possible.

Agreed.

It would mean Paneurope had a Mark V that was "better" than Combines.

I fully understand the importance of Game Balance,
but I must point out that:

*Paneurope cannot field Mark III-Bs.

*Combine has the Mark IV, and the Ninja exclusively.

*Paneurope has the Fencer and Fencer-B exclusively.

*Paneurope's Doppelsoldner is really
their version of Combines Mark VI...

"Overall, the "Dopp" can dish out damage faster than the Mark VI,
but the Mark VI can take considerably more punishment."
[page 11 OGRE Miniatures]

This would be a good example of how Paneurope could design their
own Combine equivalent OGRE units, but they were different.
...which leads me back to:
"The rebuilt templates included several modifications and improvements."
...which leads me back to:
Were they improvements enough to make them "better" than
a Combine Mark V? To which I say, that would be cool.
But, then again, maybe the Huscarl's improvements amounted to nothing more
than better gas milage, or tread life, or they were easier to maintain.

Also:

"Some versions of the Huscarl dispensed entirely with the characteristic Ogre tower."
...This statement is saying there were different versions of the Huscarl as well.
Maybe they had a standard issue Combine Mark V Version AND
a Huscarl that is the "in-game" stat changed Version I am on about
along with the version that "dispensed entirely with the "characteristic Ogre tower"?

"And it also raises the question of why the Combine could not or did not also improve their own Mark Vs, if such improvements were possible."

I don't see why it would be out of the realm of possibility Paneurope
could not get a development edge on Combine at this point.
Paneurope had the huge benefit of obtaining the Combine templates
of it's OGRE Mark V for example.
As they were trying to reconstruct them, I think that even helped them
all the more, because it caused their development Team to be even
more creative in the design trying to "fill in the blanks."
All the hard work was already done.

And to be clear, I'm not a Paneuropean fanboy...or a Combine fanboy.
I'm a OGRE fanboy. I like it all...so, no favoritism here on my part.
I just think it would be cool.

At the LEAST I would like to see the Huscarl NOT look exactly like
a Combine Mark V on the new Record Sheets.
...UNLESS this means their IS a Huscarl Version which is the same
in stats and appearance to Combines Mark V.

...Which leaves room for what I am talking about. ;)

Didn't we just have this conversation? Under the thread "Paneuropean Husacarl"?

Seems we're repeating ourselves...

Edit...I see...old one locked. Carry on!

Sure, they could've done some major changes, but instead they did some tweaks that have no effect in game terms and focused their efforts on developing the Fencer and Doppelsoldner.

They styled it to make it look more European....

I've seen similar things done in the software business. "Oh, we can't have that; it doesn't look like we wrote it! Change the interface, quick!" And then the code has all its old problems, plus all the new problems introduced by changing the interface. But I digress....

Bringing up the very human misconception that change = improvement... And yes, I know the OM rules said it was....

Oh, I am soooooo tempted to grab that line and go running with it…

But instead, I'll simply say: You're right. They're not the same thing.
