Okay, since everyone apparently wants specifics...

Black Furies—Stuffed Tricolor Peppers
Bone Gnawers—Chicken and Peanut Curry
Children of Gaia—Mushroom Stew with Wheaten Bread
Fianna—Breton Apple Pie with Calvados Cream
Get of Fenris—Gravad Lax with Dill and Mustard Sauce
Glass Walkers—Creamy Chicken Tagliatelle
Red Talons—Smoky Chicken and Peppers
Shadow Lords—Turkey and Chorizo Stew
Silent Striders—Tamiya with Harissa
Silver Fangs—Lobster Linguini
Stargazers—Tuna in Miso Broth
Uktena—Pastel
Wendigo—Venison and Barley Soup
Boli Zousizhe—Prawn Dim Sum
Hakken—Agedashi Tofu
Siberakh—Steak Tartare
Bunyip—Damper Bread
Croatan—Bison Heart
White Howlers—Venison with Blackberry Sauce
Black Spiral Dancers—Apocalypse Cheesecake

Each section includes about a page of general notes on the tribe's cuisine, the recipe itself, and a couple of notes on variations to handle gluten-free, nut-allergic, and even vegan substitutions. (Vegan werewolves, really?)

Thanks! Some of those seem very fitting, and some seem like arbitrary filler... hippie food for the Children of Gaia, sure... curry for the Bone Gnawers? WTF? These guys are mostly homeless or otherwise very humble in lifestyle - They should get some kind of Stone Soup, or fresh squab, or something you can make with $0.20 ramen or the extra baby food in WIC packages...

Children of Gaia: Probably. Glass Walkers: Maybe a few. Red Talons: Not-so-much.

My only werewolf character is a Bone Gnawer, and it seemed appropriate to me, for the modern day. Bone Gnawers have a first-level Gift that lets them make food out of genuine rubbish; this dish seems to be for comparatively good times, when there are scavenging places available.

Chicken, peanuts and onions are stuff you can swipe from supermarket throw-outs; peanuts can also be had free from many bars. The point of curry is that it covers the taste of stuff that's not the freshest, plus it's very flexible; the spices are also cheap if you buy them the right place. It's Indian village curry, not expensive foreign restaurant curry.

The "flavor page" for each entry establishes that the cookbook was compiled by a Silent Strider who went to the various tribes (where possible; he freely admits that the BSD entry is symbolic, and of course the Lost aren't around to ask) for recipes that were representative but not excessively hard on a basic kitchen, and he explains a little about why he selected that particular dish.

On the Bone Gnawer entry, he freely admits that they're fond of "big pot, low cost" dishes for the reasons you note, but he selected something a little different ("from a sept in Ghana") for exactly that reason: it's evocative but not a cliché, and it's got some style. Really, would "Uncle Smelly's Five-Alarm Chili with Mystery Meat" be something that would spark your culinary interest?

It's probably not chicken in the original recipe...

What, did they crib from Gracie's Authentic Traditional Aboriginal Recipes?

(NOTE: There is no actual "Gracie's Authentic Traditional Aboriginal Recipes" book... but look at the linked article to see what author Tom King said was included in it.)

More likely a nod to the fact that some of the people who are going to play a game about raging against the sins and pollution of an industrialized world to protect the oppressed underclasses and the sanctity of nature are going to be, uh, hippies, and said hippies are likely to be vegan, and will want to participate in these cool dishes (which will be mostly meat because, duh, werewolves).

I approve of the concept, though. The recipes, not the veganism (I don't really care one way or the other about that). Food is an important part of culture, and I often think my way through it. Plus eating and gaming go hand in hand, and instead of having Yet Another Pizza, why not have one of these in-character meals?

Kinda like running a GURPS Rome game with actual roman cuisine at the table, or serving sushi for a samurai game, or noodles for your wuxia game, and so on.

Well, this makes me think about what to serve at our next SpacePunk game. It should really be faux soy substitute ersatz yeast, I guess... Sounds like Marmite soup.

Hmm... street mutton. I was expecting long pig.

The show itself looks like Goodness Gracious Me, only with a different kind of Indian. Which is not a bad thing.
