Offering Level(s) in Lieu of Treasure
So... I noticed this happening a lot in my recent games of munchkin. Rather than just being content to barter with treasure when petitioning for or offering help in battle, I have seen a lot of "I'll give you the level for the kill if you help me, but I keep the treasure." Is that kosher?
It mostly happens when someone is already ahead of the pack and doesn't seem too interested in levelling up further right away, but would rather just collect treasure. It also happens sometimes when a player is way behind, and another player will generously accept their small amount of help and offer to give one or both levels to the losing player to bring them back up with the pack. Is this okay, or can it only be treasure that gets bartered, and the munchkin whose turn it is has to earn the level either way? Or is that more an ambiguous thing that can just be chalked up to "however you want to play"? Thanks for the clarification! |

Not allowed. You cannot give away the level(s) earned from combat.
You could, if you had a "Go Up a Level" card in hand, offer to play it on somebody else in exchange for their help, but the levels gained from combat always go to the Munchkin whose combat it is. |

Got it. Thanks! I couldn't find anything about that in the rules, so it was a gray topic amongst us. Thanks for the clarity.

Re: Offering Level(s) in Lieu of Treasure
The fact that it's not in the rules should imply that it's not allowed -- because it DOES say you can offer the Treasure -- but in case people need an explicit statement: You cannot offer levels as payment for help in combat.
