Donut World

Most people think this one is a toroidal planet, perhaps with the map of earth stretched around it. They're usually really surprised when they see the giant donuts. Most civilization sits on top of the donuts, trading cake and sprinkles for strategic resources from down below. Often a pleasant world to crash land on, though the team that got caught in the Third Battle of Boston Cream had significantly more trouble.

On Pluribus-1, the United States lost the Civil War. The Union never passed the Chinese exclusion acts, militarized and professionalized its army, and acquired a massive chip on its shoulders as the South spiraled down into racialized poverty. The Second American War, as its known, broke out when a slave revolt broke out in the South and Northern revanchists seized the opportunity - Britain and France came to the Confederacy's aid, but the League of Three Emperors aligned itself with the United States. In 1887, the United States emerged victorious, having swallowed the Confederacy and the Western territories of Canada while establishing a Quebecois Republic. Military rule established sympathetic single-party systems in the conquered territories and the close ties with the Three Emperors helped a militarized, bloodier United States expand its hold into Mexico, Cuba, and the Pacific.

Empires of force such as that one, however, seldom end well. In the Great War of 1908, the United States overcommitted its military to the aid of the Three Emperors in Europe. The Three Emperors were emerging victorious when the United States collapsed into a fatal economic Depression. By the end, a Pacific Republic stretched from Alaska to Baja California, a Southern Freedmen's Republic ruled over Dixie, New England was independent, and what remained of the United States was reborn as the Popular Federation of Laborers.

It's 1937, TL6, and the uneasy peace between and within the successors of the United States is fraying.

On this Q6 low manna world the geological history of Australia was very different. There was widespread vulcanism in the interior of Australia a few million years ago and a large area of the interior of the continent also sank. Seawater got into the interior by narrow channels creating an inland sea. Or more accurately salt lakes. These lakes create microclimates watered by heavy dews. In the rich volcanic soils ancient australian life takes strong roots and evolves in exotic ways.

Basically, 19th century Australian explorers in a setting that's more like Pulp Sci Fi. Settlers in these exotic lands are 19th century Australuian, British, and Irish setlers in what is basically a pulp Sci Fi setting. So, this is a Sci Fi Western with an Aussie twang.

Note: The Cabal is wildly interested in this parallel's Australia. Both Homeline and Centrum want to know why. But only Homeline finds mentions of "Lovecraft" disturbing.

The Dawn Wars

This recently discovered Q6 low/normal/high manna parallel seems to have fallen victem to a Cabal ritual gone seriously wrong. The spell, which was cast in the local year 1978, seems to have suppressed the human capassity for social interaction and thus caused a brutal sociatial collapse from 1978 to 1997. From what little is known of the spellcaster he seems to have had his own insane blend of the thought of the occultist Evola, the ecconomist Hayek, and the novelist Ayn Rand.

The spell seems to have run it's course but the parallel, which used to be low manna throughout is now 60% Low manna, 35% Normal manna, and 5% High manna. The suppression of social capassity was far stronger in Eurasia and Africa that in the rest of the world and weakest in the USA (this seems to be a reflection of an anti-American bias in the spellcaster and a lucky break for the USA).

In most of the world the population collapsed in the nineteen years the charm lasted. In Eurasia and Africa very few children were raised and very few children who were under fourteen when the spell struck survived the crisis. Thus the population is rebuilding from a small base of fertile adults. In the rest of the world it was possible to raise children but wars and social chaos caused a very high child mortality. Still society is regrowing from a stronger base. The USA was broken into hundreds of small fragments generally ruled by the bitter and self-rightous. Hundreds of brutal little dictatorships.

In the ruins of Boston a Cabalist from another world saw the hell is colleage had made of this world and swore to restore society. He seems to have smuggled in some high tech (fusors and robots) to rebuild the city of Boston and used spells to bring rebels agaist the local dictators. He and his allies have built a republic out of New England, the Canadian Maritimes, New York state, Northern New Jersey, Quebec, Bermuda, the Bahamas, and parts of Pennslyvania. The republic is egalitarian and determined to become a full democracy soon.

At present (2007) this new nation, The North America Federal Union, is at war on all its borders because the dictatorships and oligarchies ruling all the rest of the continent are terrified of a democracy even existing.

Basically, this is a continent wide civil war in a post-apocolyptic setting. The NAFU (North American Federal Union) is TL7 with some TL9 nine technologies. But they are struggling to rebuild their ecconomy. The rest of the world is mainly TL1 to 3 with rare exceptions. Most of the ruins of the USA are TL5 or 6 but lack a developed ecconomy or intact infrastructure.

Centrum, Homeline, and the Cabal, are all active on this world. Any force that can destroy society is a massive threat. Thiis world's secrets must be learned and the threats guarded against.

Boston Mass. is the most together city on this parallel. The water system and the sewars work. The roads are mainly in repair and the subway is running. The neighborhoods even in the suburbs have steady electrical power. New trolley lines have been opened. The Hospitals and Schools are open and operating but both are understaffed and undersupplied. Food supplies are regular, the local Vertical Farms supply enough fruits and vegtables. The decades without fishing fleets allowed the fish stocks the fully recover so Boston has enough fish and packs and cans fish for much of the rest of the NAFU(North American Federal Union). Eggs, dairy products, red meat, and tree crops are often rare to unobtainable. Consumer goods are limited in both supply and variety, although the quality is high and the cost, if high, isn't crazy. Cars that function are rare and expensive and gasoline is worse. Although the government owns cars and citizens can hire cars at reasonable rates, well reasonable for the setting. Electric cars are the only ones being manufactured in the NAFU or anywhere on the parallel (both some places "Mad Max" it).

Other cities in the NAFU aren't nearly as pleasent, but they are getting better.

Cities beyond the NAFU or recently incorperated into the NAFU, generally have a "Mad Max" vibe or look like Godzilla vacationed there regularly. Resources are rare and held by the local power elites.

In Amazon-5, a TL12 metamorphic virus was released into the human population a century ago that transformed infected female humans into female Amazons (a 400 CP template) and transformed infected human men into male Amazons (a 200 CP template). Unfortunately, the metamorphic virus killed twenty percent of the human women and eighty percent of the human men, and the Amazon sex ratio is 4 women to 1 man, so Amazon women control society while the average Amazon man stays home and takes care of the children of his four wives.

A Q7 world, both Centrum and Infinity quarantined the timeline when they realized that everyone in the timeline was a carrier. Fortunately, the timeline is a parachronic anomaly, with a -10 to enter or to leave, so it was only by accident that Centrum and Infinity discovered it. The idea of the metamorphic virus escaping the timeline gives the administrators of Centrum and Infinity nightmares.

The world called Classified is ... classified.

Something strange is going on there, and no one knows what. But whatever it is has scared Infinity.

The first probes indicated a close parallel at 1966. Minor differences, but nothing significant.

Then the first agents entered to do preliminary scouting. And things got scary.

They arrived back at base 24 hours late. And they did not remember a thing - as far as they knew they shut the hatch on Homeline and re-opened it a second later. The mission recorders and logs showed everything going routinely until the very end, then ending with 24 hours of blank recordings.

Subsequent missions had the exact same result, even ones sent to uninhabited areas with no contact with the natives.

Classified was immediately declared Z-class - off limits. The agents who had actually gone to Classified were quarantined and checked by experts in everything for signs of tampering or programming with negative results. But the agents were re-assigned away from conveyor technology.

That would normally be the end of it. But a small number of conveyors scattered all through the Infinity-patrolled multiverse have taken to disappearing for 24 hour stretches. And their records show they all went to Classified and returned. The total number of incidents so far is less than twenty, but it's still rather alarming.

Piracy is a real issue on this parallel. It interferes with both trade and the fishing fleets. The campaigns that conquered both Bermuda and the Bahamas where anti-pirate campaigns. The fleet is determined to take first the Turks and Caios and then start the conquests of Cuba and Florida.

The fleet is a combination of sail and motorised. Basically, the NAFU(North American Federal Union) uses TL8 sailboats with auxiliary motors. This gives them a big advantage over the pirates which mainly use TL3 or 4 sailships. Although their are a few leftover ships from before the disaster.

What are those templates you mentioned.
I haven't seen mention of any "Amazon" timelines--are there any elsewhere that anyone knows about?
