The last link I had to one stopped working years ago, so it would be a google search to find another, if there is one.

The GCA installer technically includes everything that it needs, short of system files themselves. However, that won't help if the problem boils down to the newer/not-newer issue that Eric mentions above.

The ONLY way I got it top work was;
1. Use the latest gca4setup.exe from SJ Games which is file version 4.0.423.0 (so that no further updates were needed).
2. Run the compatibility test of the gc4setup.exe and saved the recommended settings.
3. Click and choose "Run as administrator" on the gca4setup.exe file
4. Be patient.
After it was done it ran flawless for me.

Windows 10 Pro, Version 1709, OS Build: 16299.192

well, the issue fixed itself, and my inner support Tech says i should formally 'close' the issue, so here we go.

After the better part of 2 months trying everything i could think of short of reverse engineering the program, i was unsuccessful in getting the program to work

that was, until today - yesterday MS finally processed my request to be removed from the MS insider program that I had submitted.

And now the program works flawlessly.

I was away from the PC most of the day, and the only thing that was done was the MS windows updates.

i've had several other programs where the MS insider builds caused issues with programs known to work fine with non MS insider builds of the software, so my guess is that something in the nature of the MS insider build, or the group policy settings they apply, interferes with the program. It is, at least to me, the most plausible answer.

What was the key difference? No idea.
figuring that out would require far more knowledge about programming and the innards of windows than I really care to put into an issue that is now resolved. :P

I don't know that much about VB6, but this looks as if it might be the item.
