Default Opinions on Modiphius Star Trek?

https://www.humblebundle.com/books/s...ius_bookbundle

So, the latest Star Trek RPG by Modiphius is on Humble Bundle right now and obviously it's a great bargain comparatively but it's a game I decided not to buy when it came out.

This was mostly based on experience with an open playtest version we did one weekend. I decided that the 2D20 system as it is sometimes called was awkward and unnecessary. However, we've all bought games we've never played and there are other reasons than actual play to buy games.

The dollar cost is essentially negligable but every big pdf I get and pour over is putting me one step closer to the point where I'll need to replace my 8 year-old IPad which will be a non-negligable expense and rather a nuissance.

Still, if you have good things to say about this game please tell them to me.

Gorgeous books, meh rules, it will work as a unified background for TNG+DS9+VOY era trek, TOS+TAS is tacked on, but largely glossed over, ENT is mentioned, none of the newer stuff. Almost 500MB for what is out so far.

There are a lot of racial and ship templates scattered through the various books, as well as NPCs ranging from Tom Riker to the Borg Queen. If you want an integrated history for 90sish Trek it works well.

Setting info is rather good, and both well written and reasonably well edited.

System is ... not simulationist.
base mechanic is d20 based count-successes dice pool. 2 dice are free, up to 3 more can be purchased if unused successes have been saved. Each die is individually checked vs Att+Discipline; if within a focus, Discipline or less generates 2 successes instead of 1. Nat 20's cause complications.

Extra successes can increase damage, create or remove traits (if related to the task),perform minor actions (including movement and weapons settings)... or can be saved.

I like it, but it has some flaws. It occasionally results in Momentum (stored unused successes)/threat (GM momentum, which can do a few extra things)... Players can always create threat to pay for momentum expenditures.

It plays reasonably well most of the time, and has a nice character gen.
