I think that Method two would provide a more typical data set.

First time I took this;

Power Gamer: 58%
Butt-Kicker: 33%
Tactician: 67%
Specialist: 29%
Method Actor: 58%
Storyteller: 75%
Casual Gamer: 58%

This time;

Power Gamer: 15%
Butt-Kicker: 9%
Tactician: 21%
Specialist: 4%
Method Actor: 19%
Storyteller: 16%
Casual Gamer: 16%

Obviously some changes are from the three year difference in taking the survey, the drop in Storyteller is a noticeable drop. The rest seem fairly close.

New Results:
Power Gamer: 16%
Butt-Kicker: 5%
Tactician: 24%
Specialist: 6%
Method Actor: 16%
Storyteller: 22%
Casual Gamer: 10%

!

Tactician is up from last time, Casual Gamer is down, Specialist remains low, and the butt-kicker is down while power gamer is up.

  1. Each player type have a value between 0 and 100
  2. The player types should sum to 100+
I prefer backward's compatibility, to be honest.

I undid the sum-to-100 normalization, so now it's back to the old max-100-for-each-player-type. The sum-to-100 normalization is still there in the pie chart anyway.

I tinkered around with giving points to both player types for each question. E.g. Choosing "Sometimes" would add 50 points to both player types, instead of just the positive-response player type. This resulted in only +/- a few % to the pie graph results. Also, as several people have pointed out, the questions are pretty good at focussing on the positive-response player type, but the the negative-response player type is less focussed. For these reasons, I've decided not to add points to the negative-response player type.

I'm hoping to address bias in the questions over the coming days.

That's not a Casual/Social Gamer, that's a rude ******* or at the very least the antithesis of a social person. Unless it's something like "I need to check on the kids to see if they're causing trouble, be back in a few." And a Tactician is not the primary person to stay engaged in the proceedings while (s)he is not required, that's more the domain of the Storyteller (who is the most likely to be at the table for the entire story).

#23 TT vs CG: The best games are the ones were everybody works together towards a common purpose.
If anything, not requiring a common goal/being focused on personal gain seems more like Power Gamer thinking than it does Casual/Social Gamer. Storyteller and Method Actor are also two player types I'd expect to go for the "We don't have a common purpose" campaign before a Casual/Social Gamer would. I'd frankly expect a Casual/Social Gamer to be more interested in having a unified purpose for the group more than any other player type except the Tactician.

While other hammer out detailed plans, I’ll play host: freshen drinks, check on kids, etc.

On the updated quiz:

Power Gamer: 42%
Butt-Kicker: 79%
Tactician: 54%
Specialist: 21%
Method Actor: 75%
Storyteller: 75%

Casual Gamer: 54%

Okay, yeah, I put three in bold, but two of them were a tie!

I figured I'd take the test again to see what difference three years make:

Power Gamer: 29% (down from 38%)
Butt-Kicker: 4% (down from 33%)
Tactician: 46% (down from 58%)
Specialist: 13% (down from 29%)
Method Actor: 88% (up from 71%)
Storyteller: 88% (up from 63%)
Casual Gamer: 29% (down from 42%)

I find that reasonable. I no longer find myself quite as eager to take up games outside my preferences just for the sake of being in a game.

I just looked the current version and bounced at the very first item:

I always have a good idea what my character needs to do to advance to the next level.

What's a "level"? In GURPS, for example, characters advance point by point, with progress not broken up into "levels"; and what my next advance will be is not determinate. Is that a case of "Definitely Not"? But what if I'm in the process of saving up to buy +1 to DX, for example?

In Call of Cthulhu, "advance" depends on which skills I've succeeded at using; I don't get experience points to spend on skills. That's an even bigger departure.

Maybe this question could be phrased more generally?

Maybe just putting “next level” in quotes? I think this question used to read, “I always have a good idea what my character needs to do to level up.
