OMG. The opportunities for intrigue would be boundless!

A meta government in which the primary executive authority is vested in a representative of one of the member governments, but rotates annually between all of the members. Likewise the the member governments each send one representative to vote in the legislature.

Modification on that: A meta government in which the primary executive authority is chosen astrologically.

This would put a premium on priestcraft, elevate pliable monarchs, etc. The religious council would maintain an intelligence and diplomatic service akin to that attributed to Delphi, and probably play subordinate lords against each other.

Sounds like the sort of thing people have been discussing here, except for thr reality part.

Malaysia's king Muhammad V of Kelantan abdicates the throne

Quote:
Malaysia has a unique monarchy system where a king – the Agong – rules for just five years. The nine hereditary sultans of the country’s royal Malay houses elect this Agong among themselves usually on a rotational basis.

But Sultan Muhammad’s resignation comes just two years after he came to the throne in December 2016, and three years before his reign was due to conclude.

No previous monarch has ever left the throne mid-term.

It is unclear who will succeed him but during his absence in November and December, Perak’s Sultan Nazrin Shah was named as the acting king.

Not particularly exotic but interesting. The successor is elected from within a given number of generations of the current ruler.

To spice it up and add for mobility the derbfine thus created is added to by political adoptions.

You could also add mobility by allowing entry in the derbhfine via matrilineal or patrilineal descent, allowing people to marry in and have their children and later descendants eligible.

Now that you mention it, yes.

As a compromise between faux-democratic ideals and faux-confucian the old ancestors are recorded in a side note to make sure no face is lost when a new lineage is joined. As a bonus the inferior lineage that has a royal marriage or adoption has that recorded in it's geneology to promote it's prestige.

For a society where magical or psionic telepathy exists, you could have rule by telecontrol. That is, the candidates for the ruler position try to compel each other to yield the scepter, whoever succeeds is the ruler, until somebody can compel him or her to yield it. The general public might or might not know about this.

How about a sort of feudal corporate system? Instead of a mayor, a city would have a franchisee who buys the rights to run the city from the regional office, which in turn buys the rights from the national office.

McOcracy.

That sounds kind of like tax farming. In fact that is what it will have to be for the purchaser to recoup his loses.

Which does not mean it can't happen. It took place a lot in fact. Simply that it would not be a good system, because tax farming always takes to much taxes and yields to little revenue and the middleman always tipple to much.
