Wally Gator really wasn't a villain... and he didn't exactly have an accent. He was a Hanna-Barbara character.

Killer Croc was originally from the Batman comics, but he was a persistant villain in B:TAS... but he didn't have an accent.


so... how about Leatherhead?

I would say Bob Howard, except he already appeared in this thread and the genre is wrong.

Stross calls it "Bureamancy", I would class it as a fusion subgenre of Urban Fantasy with elements of Spy Fiction and Cosmic Horror, personally. Which seems to make it extremely postmodern. I don't really see any relation to Literary Modernism.

Off track but the next laundry files book comes out on Kindle today (amazon's pre announcement tendencies willing)

It is unquestionably literature, and as the series is ongoing in the present, it is assuredly modern. It is not Modernist literature, but nobody claimed it was.

"Modern Literature" is usually synonymous with "Modernist Literature" when you are talking about technical names for literary genres.
