Okay, I increased the template's Disadvantage total to -30 and included a Deadly Secret as an option for cultures in which horse-thieving is grounds for summary lynching. Used the points to improve skills and add one I thought of.

Gold & Appel: You are a godsend! I mean it! These templates of yours are exactly what I'm looking for.

About the Legal Enforcement Powers of the Lawman, why level 2, and what powers would such a lawman have? I tend to think of the county sheriff or one of his deputies when I think "lawman" in this context, so I'm curious as to your take on it.

I would think a lawman would need pretty high law-enforcement powers, considering that societies infrastructure was still being formed and he would have less support then his Eastern counterpart.

Thanks! :) I've been thinking about these lately anyway actually, after watching Deadwood and some movies.

I'm thinking the 10-Point version of LEP for the default "Cinematic Lawman" because it's pretty much assumed that he can act as judge, jury, and executioner in a broad variety of situations. A more realistic version would still have very little in the way of practical oversight but would probably make at least a token effort to appear to be acting in self-defense when he shoots a guy. A more-or-less autonomous gunslinging Sheriff type was the main vision there, but I tried to leave it open enough to include traveling federal agents, Pinkertons, etc also. Law enforcement types of a lesser stature than the archetypical Lawman exist of course, but all they need is 1+ points in Guns, no qualms about using it, and Legal Enforcement Powers (Deputy: Informal -50%) [3] and they're good to go.
