Default And to summarise(2) the last session...

It's bad when you discover that there was a reality quake by noticing that you have two sets of memories, one of which terminates painfully about six months ago. Whisky tends to be involves with coping with that idea.

It's also kind of worrying when you discover that salamanders are fleeing the new fire magic in the East, by crossing the English Chanel riding in the engines of German bombers and then leaping down to the fires their bombs start. You can't really blame the salamanders, though. But it is frightening when you show one a sample of uranium - radioactivity is bad for most kinds of magic in this Weird War II campaign - and it says it can ride in that, because of the latent fire, and it could release the latent fire, too.

After three days in this zombie-infested city, we're finally ready to go rescue that nun from the gang of mutants an hour's ride to the south. The scavenger found us an amazing SWAT assault vehicle, the tech got it running, and our trader invoked the power of the Lord to recruit some new allies into our fold . . . but the sweetest find may have been the huge stash of uncut coke in what used to be the police evidence room. It required the hunter and hulk taking out a dozen tranq-shooting defense 'bots to do it, but the doc swears it was worth it.

Now we have to decide if we should roll up in the SWAT truck for a frontal assault, have a few of us disguise ourselves and sneak in, weaponize the tranquilizer from the 'bots into a gas bomb, or let the gang find a stash of poisoned coke. Choices, choices, choices. And on top of that, we're starting to find evidence of this weird conspiracy that seems to have been involved in the end of the (old) world . . . and is still around.

The amazing Dr. Mist, physician/inventor extraordinaire, can no longer ignore the truth -- not only is the Beatlemaniac working his criminal way through the "Abbey Road" album, he's deliberately targeting the staff of her research facility. "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" nearly killed one of her researchers and may have left her permanently brain-damaged; the "Oh, Darling!" attack came within seconds of leaving another one dead in the hospital of an air embolism. But can the mad devotee of John, Paul, George and Ringo be brought to justice before someone visits an "Octopus's Garden?"

The psi-detective party continued to investigate what seems to be a series of murders of criminals by teleporting them to a few miles altitude and letting them fall. While reading the psi signature off one site, we spot someone who was around earlier at a different site. Once the undignified rush to follow her had been stopped, she'd also bounced a couple of mind-reading attempts, and had a clairvoyance/audience point hovering above her shoulder. The narration went approximately thus:

"She stays on that bus into central London, gets off, and walks to the Ritz hotel. She isn't really dressed for that, but the doorman seems to know her. She goes upstairs, to what seems to be her room, gets a notebook, and starts making notes. ... and at this point she's totally screwed, because you're reading them."

The notes revealed she was looking for the same teleporter, and she's an agent of a foreign group. When the police turned up to investigate a fire and gunshots at that group's UK HQ a few months previously, they mind-controlled the senior policeman, but he got broken out of that by one of the PCs. He wasn't entirely sure what had happened, but he was getting quite unhappy. Then his men found the unlicensed - but clearly used - crematorium. That's really not a good thing to be caught with. Which was part of why the group got slung out of the UK the previous year game time, along with the psionic attempts to influence the government.

Our fantasy heroes come out of their vacations and travel west to a land frought with war between two factions: The peace-keeping half-dragon empire and the enslaving elven dominion. The party was hit with a surprise when this elven nation turns out to be combining magic and technology together into frightfully powerful war machines.

The party managed to repel an elven attack upon a defenseless mining community and capture an elven slave who may know much of the elven military strategy. They took her to the half-dragon capitol in hopes of sharing this information to end the war quickly.

Meanwhile, the party Warlock flew away to find the elven army.

By himself.

And didn't tell anyone.

Someone has been killing witches in the U.S. In fact, one in each state capital up and down the entire East Coast. After some research, we've reached the conclusions that a) these people travel in a black sedan; b) they were child-sized with horns; and c) all Wiccans are lesbians. And then the session came to a screeching halt as our GM tried to make us do things that had nothing to do with the plot.

So our clairvoyant kept a close eye on this girl for most of the next few days. It was hard work, because she had a device that let her recover fatigue points: plug it in, hold the handles a few minutes, and suddenly you're fresh. We want that!

Her activities were quite mixed. She visited another site from which a teleport murder had happened. She spent a lot of time on a personal variant of high-end shopping, where you explain that there's no need to pay, and people believe you - a power we knew we had to respect. She spent an evening in the kind of dodgy nightclub where criminals mix with other species of the rich and famous, asking about the disappearances that we know to be teleport murders. She didn't get very far that way.

But the next evening, she asked the concierge at the Ritz to get her a taxi The Blind Beggar. He knew its reputation, and asked her if she was sure, and she was. It's the pub where the Kray twins and their gang drink. The Krays were ... notorious criminals, though nobody would say a word in evidence against them. They had the Metropolitan Police tamed. The PCs are the special investigative group of the new national Paraphysics police, and we aren't going to tangle with them without planning, preparation and very good reason. The Krays are Al Capone level bad news. But theirs is the only gang that hasn't been hit by the teleport murders.

So this girl is having to use her mind control powers quite a bit to get taken there, and get past the guy on the door. Everyone is telling her this isn't the place for her, and they're telling the truth. Our clairvoyant is on her shoulder the whole way.

When she's in, she doesn't quite know what to do next. She's talking to men in the public bar (she's the only woman there), but they aren't keen to answer questions, and she's starting to run into men with enough Will to resist her powers, and she's probably realising that if she manages to get one of them to talk, this will be horribly out of character and suspicion will flow. Before she gets around to doing something stupid, someone else arrives to do it.

A man who seems to be a stranger, but doesn't look totally out of place, comes in and starts telling the barman he wants to talk to "Ron", the less sane of the twins. After browbeating a hard man who comes out of the back room of the pub, and naming the names of the disappeared criminals, he gets led in there, with our clairvoyant on his shoulder.

His interview with the Kray twins and their lieutenants does not go especially well. He names the names, claims the credit and wants to be part of the gang. He insists on demonstrating, and the group goes out into the pub backyard. He's just explaining how he teleports people up to clouds, "like that one there" when someone stabs him in the kidneys, and he's finished off swiftly. Criminals don't trust people with strange ways of killing anyone.

The girl leaves the pub after a while, when it becomes clear from the atmosphere that the stranger isn't going to come out. We let her walk away from the pub, since she can't get a taxi round here, drive up and turn on the car-mounted psionic jammer, and collect her.

Kind of a voyeuristic session, but it came out about as well as we could have hoped.

And it can. The yield was about a kiloton, from a tenth of a gram of U235. The party have realised they probably have the power to destroy the world.

Then they went off and hunted down what turned out to be enchanted fleas that had come into the London docks on board a ship from the far east just before the Japanese captured the area. The fleas were getting onto rats in the docks, and causing them to grow to an unusual size.

Rodents of unusual size? I don't believe they exist.
