Default One-shot A-Team/Dungeon Fantasy mashup

So, in about a month, I'm going to be running... well, exactly what the thread title says using GURPS Dungeon Fantasy rules. I'd like for the session to be in two acts. Act one would be them being charged with stealing a McGuffin and act two being "escaping from a maximum security stockade". Maybe it's just a little writers block, but I'm having a little trouble fleshing it out. Specifically:
  • What is a good McGuffin for this scenario?
  • Why would they be going to prison? I guess I'm looking for the "crime they didn't commit" angle.
  • Who is the adversary?

Also, if anyone has any suggestions for some maps that I could steal...erm, use, that'd save me some time as well. Thanks in advance.

How about the relic of an obscure saint? It could seem inoccuous at first but then of course when it turns out to be the necromantic hand of vecna equivelent it would make sense why they are carted off to prison..

A map to the gold of the Knights of the Golden Circle.
To break out a needed team member.
Parody the Leverage team for the Adversary. Hannibal Smith vs Nate Ford has so much WIN going for it.

I think part of what makes the story is that it's something that's obviously illegal if they weren't under orders. For example, in the original show it was the robbing of the Bank of Hanoi and in the movie it was stealing minting plates. While I like your idea in a general sense, I don't want the nature of the thing changing being the reason they're incarcerated. It should be more along the lines of the person who can corroborate their story is missing and now they're just in possession of stolen goods/contraband.

I was unaware of Leverage until now. It's going into my "to watch" list, but I don't think I can use them for this effort. But as to the gold, why would the team be sent to procure it? And why would that be legal under orders but illegal if not (see above)?

No need for the mcguffin to be an easy to manage item...
Howzabout a Princess..."When you came in didn't you have a plan to get out" "Will someone get this walking carpet out of my way" "You came in that thing, you're braver than I thought"..."No reward is worth this."

So if the princess is a handful...they might rescue her...but she might not exactly be grateful...she might even claim that there was a lack of proper respect and defernece shown...or even physical liberties were taken...Thus the would be heros are in jail because of the false allegations of a spiteful child (even if the calender would indicate she should be an adult). Can also be done with a Prince...if you are a fan of Sir Lancelot and the wedding at Swamp Castle....

If it was some enemy kingdom's gold, then it might be legal for the team to be sent to grab it for their king, but illegal for them to go grab it for themselves.

Alas, the orders appear to have mysteriously vanished... so the team is being framed by the adventure's adversary.

Oh, yes: don't forget to have them locked in a room with all the materials they need to improvise weapons... which, when used, don't kill anybody. <g>

I'd considered this, but with a slightly different angle. Specifically, if the benefactor knew that his opponent had something that acted as a portable no mana zone (Mana Damper 3 + Area Effect 5 or so). But in actuality, it's a someone. Specifically, someone who doesn't understand what's going on (a child perhaps). I don't know how dependent the characters will be on magic items, but it could be interesting logistically to try to move a no mana zone and still maintain tactical viability if they have anything that they rely on. The more I talk about it, the more I like various aspects of this.

Seems highly likely to split the party, if they can't come up with some way to just stash the kid (item, whatever) or aren't willing to let it out of their sight (perhaps wisely). Who wants to stay behind and babysit while we fight?

Escort a nobles daughter for hither to thither to get her away from a unsuitable match. She protests the whole way and when they get there the person who hired them is nowhere to be found. Maybe a ransom note has been sent to her father.

My thought exactly *evil grin*.
