Cyberpunk game NPC; dead hacker who's Ghost was running on a prototype cyber deck. He had hacked into the implants of the PCs and projected a realistic avatar of himself into their minds, so they never realized he was a program running on the deck. He would subtly control one of the PCs to bring the deck along when he had to be present "in person" and would make his avatar appear to interact with the environment.

In a world of "select pre-built class/subclass/path/race" games, this thread is why "build whatever you like" games have got to live on.

I agree. There are a number of themes that make good characters, but there must be exploration to make new themes. Pathfinder 1e, for all its faults, was not actually bad at this, as it introduced a number of archetypes for each class that allowed for a large degree of flexibility, though it was still suffered from some of the limitations of class systems.
