Following the discovery of a pre-prepared house, almost literally with our names on it, the B-Team sets to the task of construction. Kamali has a vision warning of a dire threat as well. There's a lot to do, and we divide labors accordingly. At some point, there's an unfortunate encounter with a moose, and with one of our fighters wounded, we then face off with a ghostly shaman. We fend him off for the moment, but the final battle is yet to come.

I finished thinning down the shield in Viking Shield, part 2, and then it was time to see if I could get the handle carved and attached. Got it all done except for the boss, then painted it.

Over on the forums, there’s a thread on making Evaluate better. There frequently seems to be. Someone invoked my name somewhat kiddingly and asked if it was time for me to write Technical Evaluate. Thinking about it, I wondered if what that would really look like is to use the rules for On Target instead.

Thursday is GURPSDay! Here's the pull as of 7:30am, with a reminder that I try and update a few times during the day.

Hmmm

I would probably say it gives you 1, plus 1 for every Rcl 3 of success you got on your roll

This means it gives some benefit to everyone (including the really lousy people who may use it because they desperately crave bonuses, any bonuses), but gives more benefit to the higher skilled (because giving up a Skill 25 swing now for a +1 bonus in the future seems far more lame than giving up a Skill 8 swing)

The fifth episode of The Chronicles of Ceteri was tightly executed, always tense, and saw two full-on combats that give the lie to GURPS combat being a second-by-second slog. A full kit of varied techniques and smart play were on display in what was very clearly the best session of the campaign so far (though Ep 2 when we fought the fae in the house as kids is up there too).

There's more I want to say about this one in reflection, but no matter what it was a good game.

Kalzazz steps up to the plate with some commentary on 300-point (or more) games in GURPS

I’ll take GURPS for 300, Alex (Guest Post)

And Thursday is GURPSDay. Here's the collection of posts for this week.

I throw down my own sorta-answer to why I think high point value campaigns in GURPS don't require the GM to arbitrarily crank up the difficulty or capriciously contrive to crank up penalties: The players will do it voluntarily, just because they can. It can also make tactical sense.

Yup. And playing low-point games teaches you how to find the bonuses and workarounds that make those cunning manoeuvres with big penalties attached workable. I'm currently playing two different TL6 games, one at three time the character points of the other, and the feedback between them in using the rules is interesting.

OK, wow. Other than GURPSDay, I've not posted in a while.

Today's post is tangentially GURPS-related, but is mostly an observation as to a different style of shield fighting.

Here are some game musings brought about by my building and learning to use period-dimensional viking shields. The thoughts don't apply to other periods in history, when shields were thicker, metal-faced, and used differently.

But for this period - wow, what an eye-opener I had on how my use of a shield differed from how games are written!

And here are the GURPSDay links, plus some other "update" type stuff. Sorry for the link dump, but in case you haven't been looking for GURPSDay on Discord or in the helpful reference material section, here they are:
