It is an influence. The chaos and detritus of a time war.

"Seriously? You don't think the time war is real? How do you explain how Americans went from landing on the moon to building the first flying machine in 66 years?"

Suddenly realizing that we can go faster than cheetahs with machines caught the public's imagination. MUST GO FASTER! is a very human urge.

I feel your post is especially appropriate seeing as how you have humanity first going to the moon, THEN inventing flying machines. ;)

It doesn't really count as a powered flying machine if you use antimatter bombs to launch you out of giant cannon.

Use Antimatter for puree and nukes for chunky salsa. :P

The thing is I don't think there's anything that could lead to a rockets before planes scenario except maybe figuring out how to make a nuclear bomb shortly after Curie's work, then figuring out how to make an Orion drive. Or you could go the Jules Verne method, but then you run into the chunky salsa to puree problem. :)

It does not make much sense, does it? Rockets are really a lot more complex than airplanes and, quite frankly, there is no realistic way that rockets could come before planes.
