Default Halfling rerolling Run Away

The bottom says you can discard a card to reroll your escape once more. Does this mean, as long as you have cards in your hand you can continue to reroll your escape?

No, this is something you can do only once per roll. The Halfling card says that if you fail your initial roll, you may discard a card to try again. Any subsequent roll after your first would not be the initial roll, so the card locks it down to one re-roll per roll.

Now, to be clear: You have to roll to Run Away separately for each Monster, so if you are facing 3 Monsters, you can use this ability 3 times, once per Monster, if necessary, but not continually for one Monster.

Reading about this, it reminds me of a situation where a Mystic from Super Munchkin can discard two cards in order to re-roll. Do the same rules above apply? Only once per turn?

Also, it says cards and not the hand or cards in play. Does this mean the player has a choice of discarding either or?

They Mystic uses different language. It says you may discard cards to re-roll any die roll you make, so you could blow through cards as long as you want. At the same time, this ability is twice as expensive for the ability to be used on any die roll.

I think this is actually stated in the rules, but if something to tells you to discard cards, but doesn't indicate where to discard from, then you can choose to discard from your hand or from cards in play, in whatever formula you want. So, if you have to discard 3 cards, and only have two in play, you discard your two in-play cards and one from your hand, or 3 from your hand (assuming you have that many) or two from your hand and one from in play. The Cleric says to resurrect, the card must come from your hand, and the Wizard must discard his entire hand (minimum 3 cards) to charm a Monster. Since these abilities are specific, you can not discard in play cards to power them.
