"Far as the stuff goes ... well, a thief sounds kinda stupid yellin' that he got robbed, don't he? And as for the guys here, let's be honest. None of 'em came here lookin' for a Sunday School picnic. Tell me they didn't come down thinkin' they'd get to stomp a couplea helpless victims into the next life, and I'll call you a liar."

All the while, he's quietly testing the limits of the Harmony Song, seeing if his Will can find an open chink. Violence may be unthinkable under the Song's influence ... but failure to fulfill an Oath is unthinkable any time.
"Reason, see? Isn't that wonderful?" It's like he senses the Malakite's dilemma and is twisting the knife, ever so slightly. Either that or he's just Balseraphing himself. "Suicide? He was terminal, it's true. But falling on one's sword is so third century--it was a little indiscreet. Even if they don't find the body.

"Call me a liar if you wish, but...well, I don't think they were here to bully innocent bystanders. Ruby, if you would come out and explain yourself 'to these nice people'."

Ruby comes out from behind the corner, leading Zahirah and (hopefully) Mitch. "I sent these debtors to present overwhelming force, to avoid anything more than a verbal confrontation. I'm as disappointed as you are, 'Josh'."

"And they weren't here to steal...anything."

"No no, of course not."

"Ruby dear, you seriously misjudged your opponents. Three Malakim, and...who are those two with you?"

"I'll let them say."

((GM commentary, nonbumpiness---LMAO "who's the third?"))

<<Three? I can see why he'd assume Corat but...who's the third?>>

If amused smiles can be sent on the Battle band, Kane does. Then his mind flits to Nisroc. <<What do you think? The right kind of hug can rock a world.>> He quietly hopes the pun gets caught ...

Nisroc may be a Friend, but he's still a servitor of War. <<So you hold him and turn to stone. You can't move; he can't move. You can't Sing; he can. His attunements still work. I'm not seeing much advantage here.>>

<<You do realize that if they kill us we'll be ok. It's not pleasant, but it's also not terminal like it is for you.>>

Zahirah would offer a bit of a smile to Uncle Josh, "Kingman was trying to weasel out of the deals he made and you know how terrible that is for a Liliam to deal with. So, Ruby called in a favor to have him killed by his worst nightmare. Call it poetic justice if you will."

<<This is the deal. She gets credit for why we killed Kingman. It helps her stay in charge which is good for her. It helps us keep a demon harboring renegades in charge which is good for us.>>

The trick is, Kane can't suggest what he's thinking directly, not while the Song is working. He has to make an end run around it.

Of course, Creation angels are better equipped for that than some.

<<Yeah, guess you're right,>> he thinks. <<Just as well. After all, someone might come along and poke Uncle Josh full of holes while he couldn't move. That would be horrible.>>

<<Okay...I have no problems savaging him while he can't defend himself, but he does have these other lackeys and his Songs...and Corat. How do we deal with that?>>

<<There is no honor leaving the field with comrades still on it fighting. I am not afraid of pain and I am not afraid of death. I'll be fine, but I do say that Ryuki and Glen should leave if they can. They aren't necessarily fighters and their skill sets are far more useful than mine.>>

And she renews the Ethereal Shields over herself (1 Essence)

Ryuki grumbles. He's used to telling someone (or being told) what to do and damn the details if you've asked the right person. He knows Glen is the right person, so why is he balking? <<He's cool, built for de-escalation but I'd bet he can ramp that up if he wanted to. Ruby's boss so maybe territorial. Corat, what's he look like?>>

<<It's only a vessel. That said, kind of like John Travolta in "Face/Off". Except his blue eyes have the Asian fold.>>

<<Okay then, Glen. Rule out the Latins and the Levantines. Not Japanese. Try Chinese, Korean, Siberian, or Spanish. And no hurry. I'll try to get closer.>>

He slips on the shirt from his kit bag with a couple words and a note of Disturbance.

<<"Horrible">> Nisroc projects with all due irony. <<Trauma would scramble his brains enough he couldn't make a clear report on today. 'Love him'>> He does a parody of the demon's own words.

Nisroc again, calling on his Mercurian senses. Damn Glen's camera is completely useless right now, but Nisroc doesn't dare expose himself. <<I believe Ruby can call off the minions, or at least slow them down with contradicting orders.>>

Nisroc again, a bit caustic. <<I have no love for martyrs.>> It's borderline blasphemous. <<Glen is out, Ryuki will be out as soon as he stops ignoring instructions. Corat can't leave on his own, so I'm counting on you to stay alive and get him out of there.>>

<<I know what I'm doing. You'll thank me later.>> Ryuki leans against the windowsill of the master bedroom, waiting for his cue. He doesn't have to wait for long.

"And how, dear Ruby, did you contact angels?"

Ryuki slides over the windowsill and walks up, tidy and groomed, to the gathering of the burnt and bloody, a blue silk shirt (not the white one he was wearing before) looking slightly wrinkled and artfully untucked. "She asked me."

Ruby knew he would ask for payment for that lie later, but all the same beamed as though it were true.

"So you're the wizard," Uncle Josh purrs. "That means...." he hesitates, looking around, stopping at the conspicuously bald head, "that must be the Windy. I finally get to meet you. What a complete pain in the a-- you two are."
