[Powers] Can you Afflict yourself?
Simple question: can I target myself with an Affliction?

Thanks. That settles that!
It seems buying Area-Effect Beneficial Afflictions is really useful. Instead of buying an advantage yourself, you can buy it for the whole party for just a few more points (with some limitations of course, like having to roll, etc.)! |

In most cases, the extra cost does tend to be worth it. Just remember, you can buy more levels of Affliction to improve your odds of success.

Yeah, although it seems like Malediction is almost always more cost-effective. This is one of the things that bothers me about the pricing of Afflictions. Why is it 10/level? It seems the first level is the significant one. Improving odds of success should be just a different kind of enhancement, IMHO (like Reliable, for example).

Can be, not always is, or even usually is. If it's dumb to do anything other than take one level of an "overpowered" affliction and just keep using it until they succumb, the rules are not quite optimal in my opinion.

Re: [Powers] Can you Afflict yourself?
Whether you should just take one level and keep trying or buy more levels depends on the campaign. If you are dealing with humans in the 8-12 HT range, just go with one level and keep trying. However, an HT12 giant with SM+3 will only fail on a 16+, so buying extra levels is probably going to be worth it here.

Re: [Powers] Can you Afflict yourself?
Option 1)Affliction 2(heart attack +300%)[80], Innate Attack DX+2[4]. You roll against your skill, on innate attack, your victim rolls against HT-1. You have a range of 10y, or 100y with HT+2, but the chance to hit at long range is very low(up to -10).
Option 2)Buy one level of affliction(heart attack +300%, Malediction +200%)[60], will+4[20]. Now you Ignore DR, can hit anyone at 200y without any penalty, people you barely see as a point on the horizon you have -3 to kill. And taking an average, your enemy will have to roll Will-4 to resist. Unless you're fighting mages only, this option is cheaper, has a longer range, it's harder to detect, requires a cheaper attribute to hit(Will Vs. DX) and if you have good attributes, let's you kill even a guy on the other side of the planet, every second. |

Re: [Powers] Can you Afflict yourself?
Bypass the resistance roll entirely with innate attack + symptom, potentially with no die roll required, no active defense permitted and ignores damage reduction. And maybe with a rules exemption enhancement if you want an effect symptom doesn't normally permit. Crushing Attack 1 (Partial Dice (Per Level; +6), *1.8) [9] is a good starting point for a reliable delivery medium that is reasonably competitive with Affliction 1.
